    Celerons are more or less pentiums that couldn't make the grade, but depending on your needs they can be a good, inexpensive alternative.

                A few months ago I bought a dell GX1 PIII 500MHz for my kids on ebay for $100 (or so) with shipping.
                We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

                  BTW if you're looking to just upgrade MB, CPU, RAM for a few hundred then go to www.pricewatch.com and look at MB combos.

                    Lobby around at your local college/university. Sometimes they still have old stuff lying around that you can take with you.

                          Actually, he's on to something. Any medium or large size university has a "Property Disposition" where lots of old stuff is kept and resold for cheap.

                          The one I went to at U. of Michigan had tons of stuff, from jewelry and power generators to computer systems and components-all for very cheap.

                          Your next choice would be a mom and pop computer shop, like stated before. It's older, but in most cases has a warranty.
