If I ever owned a large store chain and I had union workers that decided to strike I would destroy my company, sell what I could and retire.

People at the grocery store who ask you if you want your groceries in a paper or plastic bag. After that, they promptly put your groceries haphazardly in the type of bag you didn't ask them to use, often placing heavy items atop eggs and other fragile food items.

Now, now Ixnay. They're only getting paid $15 per hour to put groceries into bags so you can't expect perfection.

Like most of the jobs in DDR, this job sounds really useless.
I wouldnt even let anyone else to sort my condomes, tampoons and lipsticks into a plastic bag

Point of order: The strike was only called at Von's. Then Ralph's & Alberson's locked their union workers out.

There are no strikes at Gelson's, Statler Bros., Trader Joe's, Food 4 Less or Costco. (Gasp I Need caffeine)

And a transit strike should also hit L.A. starting today. The city is trying to push higher medical benefits costs onto the mechanics' union.

MrFun: $15/hour is low, but good as a second income in a two-income family, which many of the workers have.

Personally, I think this strike is BS. With health care rising these days many companies are being FORCED to cancel health care if the currently cover it. All the store is asking is that the employee help carry the cost. I pay for my health care! My wives company canceled it all together, can't even pay for it!... They need to stop their whinning and start bagging Oerdin's Vodka! (I buy mine at the liquor store)

I wish the strikers were here. That way I could cross their picket lines about once an hour, just for the hell of it, and I have tons of friends who would do it with me

I'd do that too - strikers really piss me off. Especially Ted.

I am kind of glad for the strike for some reasons of my own.

First I am unemployed right now, and this would be a great temp job as I look for a job myself. I was going to go down and apply etheir today or tommorow.

Second is that if you cross the picket lines and go into the store the lines are not that long and you can get in and out quick.

Over all the system is fair. The workers can with hold their labor if they want and the business is free to hire new laborers if they want.

I dont see why these people sre striking. Everyone else is having to pay higher health care costs. Some of these people work part time and still get health care for themselves and family that is really good. Also many stores like Wallmart and Cosco are cutting into their market and the have much lower labor costs. I think they pay people who do the check out $10 and hour at Cosco.

Baggers don't get paid $15 an hour.
