Well, honestly, I think this kind of line of education can be very interesting, unlike mine. ( Which does, however, offer a steady job for life )

The Economist magazine and BBC website put it quite well. They said that America had reached the Moon in the 1960s, found little of interest there, and never gone back.

Now, China and India have both declared equal and opposite interest in the Moon and are racing to get there. What America can make of this interest in something it abandoned so long ago is anybody's guess.

It will end in failure... and China will say it was successful. They have already filmed the return with the taikonaut's. The whole thing is a scam. They are not capable of space flight with humans.

The BBC has an interresting article on this. According to the spokesman from the Chinese government the manned space program has two main goals. 1) To build patriotism with in China and to build prestige abroad. 2) to help improve China's military capabilities.

Launching a man into space was a big deal back in the 1950's but the Chinese are a half century late to the party. At least a half dozen nations (Japan, Germany, UK, France, to name a few) could do it if they wanted to but it's really just a waste of money so they haven't. China would be much wiser to spend the money improving the lives of it's poor people.

I applaud this. We really need competition to spur our own space program. The Russians no longer have the resources. The Europeans seem to be disorganized and irresolute. The Chinese can be formidable competitors. Go China!

How much space tech sharing is there to China? It would be a shame if their science efforts were retreading the ground that was already covered by others.

According to the BBC China was recently ranked 96th amoung nations in terms of living conditions and quality of life. That's pretty close to rock bottom. Maybe they should worry less about what foreigners think about them and worry more about how the people in their own country live.

Japanese grammer is not for the faint of heart or weak of mind. What's more, the Japanese also do not have any words for "me", "them", "him, or "her" that anyone could use without being incredibly insulting (the Japanese word for "you", for example, when written in kanji, translates to"I hope a monkey scratches your face off"). Because of this, the sentence "He just killed her!" and "I just killed her!" sound exactly the same, meaning that most people in Japan have no idea what is going on around them at any given moment. You are supposed to figure these things out from the "context", which is a German word meaning "you're screwed".

The Anime Freak is probably the most common, and one of the most annoying. You can usually spot a few warning signs to let you identify them before it's too late: they wear the same exact Evangelion shirt every day, they have more than one anime key chain on their person, they wear glasses, they say phrases in Japanese that hey obviously don't understand (such as "Yes! I will never forgive you!"), they refer to you as "-chan", make obscure Japanese culture references during class, and usually fail class. You have to be extremely careful not to let them smell pity or fear on you, because if they do they will immeadiately latch onto you and suck up both your time and patience, leaving only a lifeless husk. Desperate for human companionship, they will invite you to club meetings, anime showings, conventions, and all other sorts of various things you don't care about.
