Game 3 of the ALCS was, um, interesting (how did Roger put it? Festive? ). 4-3 Yanks, and it was PEDRO who got his socks rocked (sort of, Pedro's been so damn good that 4 earned runs is shocking). I'm not gonna get into all the silliness that went on - there was plenty going around, and I'm actually getting tired of it. Play ball, ffs.

The rainout definitely helps the Sox. Here's hoping that Wakefield's knuckler doesn't work twice in a row

        I Don Zimmer.

Any 72 year old guy who's macho enough to pick fights with athletes half his age and sensitive enough to cry about how he's let his family (and the game) down afterwards is OK in my book!
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

*shakes head* That was just ugly.

Zim, Zim, Zim. What were you thinking?

Oh well. At least he had the sense to apologize later. Nobody else did.

Time to resurrect this...esp w/ one out to go for Boston to ties up the series.

Was 3-1 Boston but NY homered in the top o' the 9th.

And now it's a tie series. A Chicago-Boston World Series moves from the realm of fantasy to a definite possibility.

                  Knuckleballers

Wakefield was a washed up 1st baseman who couldn't hit. He went back to square 1 and learned to throw the knuckleball and has now won 2 games in the LCS. Why aren't there more knuckleballers? Sure, its unpredictable, but it's got to be better than getting bounced out of the majors/minors if you really want to be a major leaguer. Heck, with the knuckleball, even I would have had a chance to be major league pitcher.

What would really suck is a Red Sox-Marlins series. That would be two years in a row that the wild card made it from both leagues. I grant that you can't get away from the wild card as long as you have six divisions instead of four or eight, but if they win too often it smells bad.
"THE" plus "IRS" makes "THEIRS". Coincidence? I think not.

                    • If Soriano could turn a ****ing double play, or if he didn't consistently get himself out (to the point where any pitcher who actually throws strikes to him is an idiot), that game may have gone to extras.

If Sori turns that DP, the 3rd Boston run doesn't score. I know you cannot assume the same outcome in the top of the ninth, but it irritates me that instead of being only 1 run down, the Yanks had 2 to make up... and they managed 1! Arg!

                      • The Yanks are up 4-2 in the top of the 9th. They must be thanking their lucky stars that they don't have to deal with Wakefield anymore .

                          • Yankees win, up 3-2.

If Boston wins, then Wakefield is, of course, the LCS MVP, but if NY wins, I'm not sure who gets the award. Maybe Petitte if he can win again.

                            • If the Red Sox lose this series, you can point to one big reason why: The Red Sox didn't stay the course and pitch Burkett in Game 4. Now, they may not even make it back to Pedro. (Imran: If the Yankees close it out tomorrow, Pettitte's easily the MVP.)

And on the other hand... I sense there's going to be a huge party on the North Side of Chicago about three and a half hours from now.
