Too shocked and digusted to think of anything useful to say. Stone the bastard to death.

I fail to see how this is a first amendment issue- he's essentially slandering someone who's dead and can't defend themselves. That's not a religious expression.
The town should invoke eminent domain and tell them to piss off."Perhaps a new spirit is rising among us. If it is, let us trace its movements and pray that our own inner being may be sensitive to its guidance, for we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness that seems so close around us." --MLK Jr.

Someone should beat this guy senseless.:-p

Why can't somebody accidentally hit Phelps with a cruise missile or something? Y'know, he has to wander by a military testing range now and then, right? I mean, no one would be none the wiser. Just a big ol' crater left where Phelps and friends once were.

This guy goes against the Christian principles of Tolerence and brotherly love.
This guy should go back to his bible and learn what it is all about."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

Denying permits due to the content of the "memorial" is a bit of a problem, legally, because most of Phelp's family are lawyers with nothing else to do, and the city really shouldn't have to get tied up in court fights over stuff like this.
I'd be tempted to good ol' boy it, and quietly let the word out that once that thing was installed, if it got "lost" or "stolen" or had a load of ready mix poured on to it, or any other form of "unfortunate circumstance" that didn't kill anyone or destroy city property, then the city wouldn't be too bent out of shape, and local law enforcement might just be a tad too busy to make a priority of investigating such unfortunate acts. When all else fails, blame brown people. | Hire a teen, while they still know it all. | Trump-Palin 2016. Could someone please erect a statue in Phelp's hometown of him taking it up the ass from Jesus?"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

I wonder if the Baptist church will excommunicate him. This way he can no longer "speak for God."
Of course, I'm not holding my breath for this to happen...
