Face it, the U.S. was a whole lot safer when everyone had guns
If you're that worried about crime, why not just kill everyone? Then there's no crime.
Judge Death - what a guy.
Some cry `Allah O Akbar` in the street. And some carry Allah in their heart.
"The CIA does nothing, says nothing, allows nothing, unless its own interests are served. They are the biggest assembly of liars and theives this country ever put under one roof and they are an abomination" Deputy COS (Intel) US Army 1981-84
The US high crime rate and high rate of violence can be put down in part to a lack of gun control. There are far more guns in Canada, per capita; but that country does not have the problems with violence the US does.
You Americans make me laugh - you deliberately choose a societal model that leads to less overall security and then complain about the crime. Unfortunately your solution just seems to be to hope that the criminals start behaving.
A few years before he died, Daniel Moynahan (moderate Senator from NY) confronted this very question, and came to pretty much those conclusions. Plus, he noted, even if we did ban guns right now, there are already enough floating around in our society to make the ban meaningless.
His solution: ban bullets. Seriously. Ban the sale of handgun bullets to everyone but licensed law officers, and have law officers get them through tightly-regulated government distribution.
I tend to agree with Sloww that the genie is already out of the bottle. But you have to admit, it's an interesting idea.
While it is inconvenient, a person can reload shell casings. It just takes some simple equipment. My grandpa always insisted that I pick up my shell casings after shooting no matter where I was.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh
In Iowa, we clobber each other over the head with corn cobs.
Is that all you do with them?

if you live in a place where you need guns to feel safe, you're living in the wrong place.
Homicide rates in the US are 3 to 9 times higher than in EU nations. Even with your precious guns. They don't seem to be helping you much, do they? Unless you plan on shooting up your school or former employer, that is.

this is because most people don't have guns.
you haven't been listening.
All you Euros think americans go around the town toting guns. Very, very few people own guns. And even a much smaller number carry guns outside their homes.
You people complain about hollywood movies not depicting history accurately, yet you base your knowledge of the U.S. from hollywood movies. You can walk around my city for hours and not see a gun. They don't even let many casino security guards carry them anymore because of the liability risk.
Hm, how does this ruling makes sense?
"Yeah, you are allowed to carry your weapon in your hand, ready to shoot. But please dont put it in your pocket!"
If its no fun why do it? Dance like noone is watching...

Just as I said, the analogy doesn't hold. Criminals already get the best weapons possible. The range of the best weapons possible won't change.
How do you figure? A race would only be needed if existing hardware is inadequate.
