the basement isnt the basement - thats christian thinking. She's tossed out of her bedroom, but now she's in the living room, where she has to do chores, but the living room is also filled with beautiful things, that ive placed. I expect her to love and honor the living room and be thankful for it, and take good care of it, and not spend all her time dwelling on the Great Bedroom, or regretting her choice of the cookie. The more she does the chores in the living room ive asked her to do, and the more she does them with love, the more I am able improve the great bedroom. The great bedroom and the living room are mystically linked, the living room is NOT just a waiting room for the great bedroom as some have said.

And by the way, that wasnt "uncle Satan" who convinced her to eat the cookie. It was just a snake that wandered in from the garden. The people who tell her it was Uncle Satan are the same people who want to convince her that the living room is really a basement, and that instead of following my living room chores she should follow some guy who will lead her to the Great Bedroom. They've even tried to convince her that the living room chores, which Ive given to her BECAUSE I love her, and which I want her to do in love, are "just chores" and are an inferior way of thanking me.

The flaw is that, for your story to be the same, a few things must be added.

1.) As long as your daughter remained in the room, and did not eat the cookie, she would be in an innocent state, but would not grow. She would simply do what she was told with no ability to choose for herself; in addition, she would not be able to know happiness and joy, for she would never know any grief or sorrow.

Okay, I'll play. So in your version, I create the Beautiful Bedroom, and then place in it the Forbidden Cookie. I tell my daughter that she can live in the Beautiful Bedroom forever, as long as she never eats the Forbidden Cookie. But -- and what a neat twist you've introduced here -- I'm lying! It turns out that she needs to eat the cookie! That I expect her to eat the cookie! I was planning to exile her to the basement all along, and only eventually -- very eventually -- let her back into the bedroom. So she gets to come back, but only after years of castigating herself in the mistaken belief that eating the cookie was all her fault and that she has displeased me.

I can accept that version. And in that version, I'm still a petty, vindictive, sadistic monster. And so is any so-called deity who behaves that way.

Does anyone else find this whole bedroom/cookie analogy to be a bit silly?

I find MOST of it "silly".

God gave people brains and reasoning power that addresses the trash that's been offered in this thread.

Gender identification and sexual preference, is not part of that ability to choose.

notice that G-d said that Adam and eve were forbidden to eat the fruit. When talking to the snake, Eve said that they were forbidden to eat of it, or even to touch it. So Eve added to G-ds word, and made it stricter than it was meant to be. Perhaps that was the real problem.
