Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Isn't it time for a name change? Why is it called 'Pentium 4'? Shouldn't the Pentium 2 have been the Hexium (or something) and Petuim 3 the 'Octium'?
BTW, I need more ram. Does anyone know what memory costs these days? I currently have 256MB - would I be better to buy another 256MB, or scrap the 256MB chip and go straight to 2x512Mb? (It is only a puny 1.6GHz....)

That's the inclusive L3, right?
That's what was originally thought, but there's still some confusion. The L1 and L2 are most definitely inclusive, but for the L3 the news articles from IDF have all said it will amount to a total of 2.5MB of cache on the chip (L1 + L2 = 512KB, L3 = 2MB).

They wanted to avoid the "deviated Septium" jokes that would have sprung up around the chip now called the Pentium III.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
They'll get around to it eventually. I think Prescott is getting a new naming scheme.

Yeah, but they said pretty much the same thing about the Xeons.
This just seems like a weird move for Intel right now. The P4E is going to eat into their Xeon market on the workstation side. It's also going to cause them marketing problems when Prescott comes out (especially if the L3 does make a difference). I just don't see any strategic sense to selling repackaged Xeons to the enthusiast market like this.
Oh, well. Maybe they're having more problems with their .09 process than expected.

90nm yields have improved faster than any other generation, according to the charts and graphs Intel showed yesterday.
They also claimed the Pentium 4 EE will be the "fastest chip released this year".
They also said the 3.2GHz will be the "first" EE...
What's happened is the high end will be the Pentium 4 EE, mainstream will be Pentium 4, and low end will be Celeron.
For AMD, Athlon 64 FX is highend (priced comparatively to the P4 EE, supposedly), Athlon 64 mainstream, and Athlon XP low-end.

I can confirm that while the P4 has some safety mechanisms for running too hot, eventually a P4 will burn out at the higher temperature. It took mine about 3 months, I guess.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt.
