I figured I drag up this thread from four days ago as there where no decent Iraqi threads up on page one. The Iraqi situation is not news anymore I guess. This is just the right kind of thread for the link I'm about to post though.

Anyhow, the reason was that I haven't heard much either on the news (maybe the swedish EMU election and the murder of Anna Lindh drowns everything else around here). However, I found an article on Haaretz that summarized the development over the last couple of days:

Report: Eight U.S. soldiers killed in attack west of Baghdad

For anyone that really wants to read reports where the americans make misstakes, this little piece of it got my attention:
"About 30 kilometers (18 miles) to the east in
Fallujah, neighbors said a 14-year-old boy was
killed late Wednesday and six people were
wounded in a shooting incident that started
after people at a wedding fired guns into the
air to celebrate and a passing U.S. military
patrol opened fire believing it was under
    attack."

It seems to me, with the little and biased information that I have, that the american troops are not in control, at least not in some places. They seem way to jumpy about it, shooting at anything and everyone.
