      Those who think using a commandline is bad: compare the speed you move the mouse at to the speed you type at. Also, every Linux install I have used has the ReadLine library installed. That means that if I type the start of a word into an xterm and hit tab, the word completes. This more than doubles my effective typing speed.

      Spiffor: Most games and libraries use configure scripts. Most configure scripts take the --prefix=PREFIX argument which sets the installation directory. When running a configure script, pass it "--prefix=/home/spiffor/game_executables" as an argument. This won't help unless your add this line to your .bashrc (or whatever shell you use, I think bash is default on RedHat)
      export PATH="/home/spiffor/game_executables/:/home/spiffor/installed_libs:$PATH"

          Okay, genius. Let's play more games:

          "Those who think using a GUI is bad: compare the speed at which you draw with the mouse to the speed you draw with the keyboard."

          GUIs save time and make life simpler in general. It's your incorrect mindset that CLI is best for most things which is why Linux is such a craptastic desktop for anyone but hardcore geeks desperate for geek-acceptance so they, too, can shout "RTFM" to all of the clueness n00bs on IRC.

              Actually, I got almost all the help I used from geek forums (I browsed them with some google-assistance). Geeks can be very helpful... They just sometime tend to forget that for the newbie, simply executing a program isn't always easy under Linux.

              I only undertsood a few hours ago why writing the program's name when you were in its directory wasn't enough And I still can't understand why double clicking on the program doesn't execute it.

                I draw very precisely. If I could, I would set a keystroke to take the place of a mouseclick because I would mess up less when drawing.

                Does Explorer allow you to select noncontiguous groups now?

                Correction for me specifically: I don't CARE how other people do things. I have my way of doing things and I will defend it until the day I die.

                Shouldn't that be clueless? I consider Linux (specifically the Sawfish window manager and any others with viewports) to be better than windows because it has something windows never has had and probably never will have, viewports.

                    Windows has viewports/multiple desktops.

                        Eh? 2D. You get a little taskbar toolbar with a grid of your desktops. You click the desktop you want to switch to.

                          Sawfish has 3d, but, I admit, by default it's only 1d. I have used KDE and Gnome, which both use a clickable grid for viewport nav, and I find that I prefer not to have the annoying thing on my desktop. Thus, I use Sawfish now and have key combos for going to and sending windows to different viewports.

                          BTW - Is there a limit on the number of viewports? And can they be arranged in any rectangular shape?

                              When you click the green preview button, the screen is resized in realtime and elegantly zooms out to show all of your desktops. You then click the one you want, and it'll elegantly zoom back in...
