Walk to a french girl and say

Je veux faire de l'amour fou avec toi.

My images from Paris are really nice. I won't bore you with louvre, place de la concorde, place de la bastille, tour d'eiffel, notre dame, walking along the Scene (in english?) and relaxing letting your eyes wander to the beautiful gravoures, or the bistros, or the catacombs, or initially getting mistaken for a french and then being invited at a WWII veterans outdoor meeting for some champagne, being spoken to in greek my french cosmopolitans etc etc etc

        Nah,

the images that have been imprinted in my mind are much more simple that than.

that of a french girl drinking her cafe au lait just some tables away from me in the morning at a french bistro in some unimportant parisian subburb

or looking out of a caffee's window and watching some french guy waiting in anxiety for a rantez vous he had and then the asian girl coming and them walking together in happiness, simple images like that is the best of paris for me.

rantez vous? Is that where two people get together and scream at each other?

                Almost, paiktis.

                Rendez-vous...

Not that I care, it's just that I got an image of a romantically-entwined couple shouting at each other and wanted to share.

Surprise, surprise yu could not find one at any restaurant in Caen that would speak english, they did not have menus in english and besides the food being crappy it was expensive too. We wnet to an italian restaurant were pasta was excellent and we also ate Pizza Hut pizza just to be on the safe side . Besides that the hotel was also expensive and we only had trouble because the receptionist did not speak english well. I also met up with some english at some of the invasion beaches and they had similar experiences, upon which my wife said why did the allies even liberate them. It seems they do not appreciate it much these days.

On another note, isnt this the time of year when the parisians desert the city?

Yeah, in August it is. Some would say it's a good reason to go now, to avoid the parisians
But he'll come in 3 weeks, in September.

About the Normandy trip : I'm quite surprised you couldn't find any english-speaking restaurant. On the other hand, as SpencerH said it, blaming French people for speaking french only or broken english isn't really fair

I'm going with my girlfriend. Maybe I can convince her to let me find a French girl for a threesome. Never brough it up to her before - it might not be out of the question...

In April, I am going to London with a friend of mine. For sure, he and I will find some girlfriends then!

Thanks to everyone, and particularly Menlas and Paiktis, for their advice. I am attempting to learn some French through audio tapes. I know I only have a short time before my trip, however I am hopeful that some of the language will stick with me. I like it when people post things in French for me to say, but please post English translation when you do that! I would really like to visit the DDay beaches at Normandy but I wonder if that is too far from Paris for a day trip. I've also thought about a day trip to Versailles as well.

Try to speak French, and be it with the help of your hands and feet. There are many people who will pretend not to understand you or ignore you, if you talk English. Take your $$ (and a lot of them, Paris is helluva expensive for foreigners) and change them into €€. If somebody offers you Francs, don't take them.
