  • Why is Suburbia becoming conservative?

In the last elections the booming suburbs if Minneapolis-St. Paul helped my state elect a republican Senator and Governor. Minnesota has historically been very liberal (and had a lot of communists in the early 1900's). What happened to the days of Humphry and Mondale? Has Minnesota become another victim of the reactionary BS of the Neo-Cons? we were one of the US's most progressive states untill the last decade. Why are suburbanites falling for conservatism?

Exactly. Suburbia, is made for conservatives.

Bull, Odin... like Sloww said it's basically made for conservatives. I mean who lives there? People that work in the city (usually), but don't live there. That means they have money.

Personally, I love the suburbs . Big houses, lots of stores and commerce, plenty of trees.

libertarians have two sides. A left-leaning side, and a right-leaning side.

I'm more of right-leaning side. Though I'm really not a libertarian at all, I'm a moderate in every category.

Dissident, you are more like an Arnie Libertarian... as he calls it: Pragmatic Libertarianism. I'm somewhere around there as well, myself, but not as moderate as you .

because after many years of liberal policies, people are beginning to realize- the inner cities still suck. billions of dollars, and no progress.

Crime rates are still out of control. Yes, I suppose if we gave people more money, they wouldn't commit these crimes. We've been hearing that a long, long time.

Ask yourself why are they moving into the suburbs? Is it to get away from the crime? Or would they rather buy larger plots of land? People of the more liberal persuasion perfer to live in the cities, near the 'pulse' of the city. Suburbs have always generally been populated by conservatives, many of them wishing to escape the city life.

After all, the first suburb (Levittown) was cookie cutter, all the same, 1950s sitcom like living. Very conservative indeed.
