Didn't I hear somewhere that 'Jew' means 'one who argues/fights with God' somewhere? I like the idea of that in a religion
(even if you aren't taking the idea of God as a spiritual thing and regarding it as more as a metaphor for accepted wisdom)

Pius XII said something like that in the 1950s, though he allowed Catholics to embrace evolution as a serious hypothesis.

John Paul II went quite a bit farther.
