Japher--I didn't intend for it to be. That's just ONE thing we can do to make schools a LITTLE better.

If I said that we should enroll in, say, one of those Save the African Children Who Don't Have Shoes programs, would I be saying that I intended to develop Africa to first-world status by giving them shoes?

I certainly agree with you, mrmitchell, and I also don't think that we should be grammar Nazis, but at the same time, I don't think we can call a population that accepts phrases such as "I be ready to score some weed" is a well educated population.

On the other hand right now in the USA all TV and movie is corporate, and all corporations have the same agenda: $$$$$$$$$$$.

On the public school question, I attended public elementary, middle, and high schools, and am now at the best darn public university in the world.

Sure, I can accept "I be ready to score some weed". I usually don't say so myself, though.

(The period is supposed to go before the end quotation mark, isn't it? Well, that's grammar Nazi'ing for you.)

Good grammar creates a good illusion of a well-educated and intelligent population. That is all.

Why do we even care about grammar in the age of 62 smilies?

I'd still prefer government, or even political party owned TV, or even religious TV to corporate TV. All of these three at least try to educate the viewer in something or the other. Corporate TV doesn't even do that, instead spewing out stories about kittens wrestling.

Let's take a typical crime story, for example:

Corporate TV: shows you the gory pictures and lurid stories.

Government TV: praises the police force in catching the criminal, instructs viewers how to avoid being victim of similar crime.

Political Party TV: bashes other party's policy for allowing crime to happen, explains why it's policy would be superior.

Religious TV: Condemns the crime with examples from religious text, blames modern society, urges you to convert to religion.

I was just indicating a lot of curiculum and teaching 'style' suggestions... The problem isn't with the amount of teachers or in some cases even the qaulity of teachers, the problem is in the numbers and quality of the students.

IF you don't want to learn than get the hell out or shut the F up!

Some background might be in order. I grew up in a rural town of 300 people. I started my education in a Catholic school, and continued in Catholic education until eighth grade. Our town did have a Catholic high school, but it closed when I was in sixth grade. I guess given the rural area, and the increased number of kids being sent to public schools, our high school could no longer support itself.

Three of my older siblings went to this Catholic high school for private education, but me and my next older sibling went to a public school for our high school education.

Grammer class is stupid, so is PE.

Warning! Public school makes your kids gay! Just kidding

Everyone in this thread seemed to have turned out well, public or private school, but around me, public school kids turn out not necessarily as book smart but they have a lot more experience of life and are more open-minded.

                              That's just around me though.

EDIT: I should note that both of the private schools around me are ultraconservative Religious-past-all-belief no-funds sucky-teacher ****holes. Most private schools are probably better than the ones my fellow Camden citizens have come from.

DOUBLE EDIT: See? Public schools are more consistent, too. A ****hole in California is a ****hole in New York is a ****hole in Arkansas...but private schools have many more variations in ****.
