Opportunity does not....does not equal success.

Opportunity is....exactly that....the chance of success.

In order to turn an opportunity INTO a success, requires personal effort.

Until then, it is simply an unrealized ambition. A desire.

That would be like saying: If dreams do not equal reality, then what good are they?

I don't think DAVOUT agrees with your regular nonsense claiming that all a person has to do is try and they will achieve any goal they set for themself regardless of the obstacles.

It means you get to play the game. You get to try and do what ever it is you want to do, and not have to follow some predetermined path set to you by your forefathers or your government, or even your education.

Opportunity has made the world of difference in this country, not only because of those who have succeed, but because of those who have failed, learned from it, and tried again.

Success is being able to get up one more time than you have fallen...
Thank you for an honest answer. There is some value to this kind of opportunity too.

      • Actually Kid, that's what YOU are saying. You're the one saying that opportunity should equal success, remember? I'm saying the opposite. Opportunity means you have the CHANCE to succeed.

It also means you might not succeed. You might fail horribly!

        So?

There are few things in the US economy where failing horribly = death, so it means that it didn't work out. Doesn't mean you can't try again, or try something different, now does it?

Again, the big two-step process for you if you want to succeed economically. It's been distilled down as much as it possibly can....just two steps to remember:

        1) Spend less than you earn
        and
        2) Buy (invest in) something that will increase in value over time.

You're telling me that it is utterly impossible for some folks to do this. I'm telling you that you are incorrect.

The funny thing is they all agreed on that point. So did every Supreme Soviet since they all included it in their opening statement. Denying religion is as fundamental to the communist ideology as believing Jesus is the son of God is to the Christian faith.

                It is not fundamental.

                • Kid, but that's not really the point, is it? I bet I spend less than Bill Gates. So? What does that have to do with ANYTHING? I'm not Bill Gates.

Memorize those two steps, and if economic advancement is something you're even mildly interested in, you will succeed by following them.

It is just as hard for Vel to spend less than I do as it is for me. If Vel thinks he's so much better than me based on how much he spends let's see him spend less than I do.
