    Give me a ****ing break!
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

You might be surprised at my political views - you assume I am a leftist, actually I am catagorized as slightly right-wing in my economic views (well according to political compass anyway as I'm at +3.4 on their scale, why don't you test yourself and we can ccmpare).

Well done on the quote from the CIA, it shows that there is hope for you still.

I wonder if we have not been arguing across purposes as I have said that labour market regidities do cause higher unemployment in Germany (although not to the extent you claim) - my main argument has been that this has not fed through into slower growth, per person, than the US.
I note that the CIA report does not mention the large differences between the former east and west germanies - unemployment is 18% in the east but 7% in the west (not much higher than in the US in other words).
And even that awful rate is lower than the 20% recorded in other post-communist states like Poland and Slovakia

              read mine

So, basically you're twice as far from the centre as I am.
But whilst I might be to the left of you I doubt most people would consider me left-wing on economic issues.

But the difference in my preference for Liberty over your preference for Authority is much more marked.

Maybe this is why I question statistics whilst you will happily swallow them

Anybody to the left of me, is a leftist. Kidding..

Authority? I am actually moderating... +1.80 is better than the +4 I got months ago.

Yes it did offend. But I can take it... like all the other insults I take by some people who just hate me.

                      • I don't hate you Fez,

Disagree, get exasperated with but not hate.

Assuming others hate you is probably an 'occupational hazard' for a misunderstood soul like yourself - but it's usually not true.

                        • Stop trying to paint me as a victim. I certainly am not. I could not give a rat ass what others say about me.

                          • And yet you use such an emotive word like 'hate' to describe their attitude towards you.

They may hate me for the relationship I had... but I could care less.

                              • So, back to the original discussion.

Do you deny that differences in the way the US and most european countries calculate inflation (and thus growth) makes direct comparisons between their growth rates difficult?
