      • Good job on the lists, Jon Miller and Ellestar.

Reminder: The 2nd character I posted (Ript - the tripping fighter) is available for someone else to play.

The Mad Monk - Improved Trip is great - if you're going to be succeeding with your trip attacks(opposed Str checks), otherwise it can be a waste.

        • Well that's the question, isn't it? My PH says that 14 strength is equivalent to gnoll avaerage, so I suspect Morganna is stronger than your average orcs or hobgoblins, many humans, most goblins, and we won't even get into kobalds. She's also pretty dextrous. But...is she strong and dextrous enough to make it worthwhile? I've never played third or second edition, so I'm completely at a loss here.

          • Oh - 14 Str? I missed that - I suspected that as a future spellcaster, she wouldn't be muscle-bound.

Your +2 Str modifier is only 1 less than what I gave the fighter I made, who is designed for tripping. So you should be fine. I had considered spending the extra points to push his Str to 18, I couldn't justify the other sacrifices for a one point increase in the Str modifier.

            • Great! I'll make the change then.

              • "Insane Knockdowner"
Half-Ogre Barbarian/Fighter (perhaps 2+ levels of fighter for feats)
Feats: Wolf Berserker, Improved Trip, Knockdown, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Chain, Spiked), Large and In Charge, Combat Reflexes
                Reach: 20 ft.
Opposed Roll to trip opponent: 3 (Base Str 16)+3 (race modifier to Str)+2(Barbarian rage modifier to Str)+4(size Large)+4(Wolf Berserker Feat)=16+1d20 usually vs. something like 3+1d20.

                  • I may have to change a few things (appraise may not be a class skill of the rogue)

                    • Apparaise is, but I think you need to fix alchemy.

I finished up my characters background -- what region would she be from? I still need to finish equipment.

Mechanics question: when you spend skill points, do you consider all your classes for determination of what is a class skill, or only the class of your most recently gained level?

                      • Ok, I'm going to scrap power attack. It doesn't sound that useful, and I don't really have enough feats to be messing about with pre-requisites and so on.

I'll change to iron will. The willpower bonus, combined with the rage morale bonus, should keep my mind clear from enemy spells.

I has been my experience that statements of this nature invariably cause the GM to take notice and prepare a specific surprise for an overconfident player. Be careful.

                              • Yes, but fighter has a lot of feats, not unlike barbarian. What gives Cleave? 1 additional attack if you kill someone. To be really useful, you must kill a lot of opponents in every fight - this means that they are weak compared to you. (Btw same with power attack - it helps only when you can hit an opponent no matter what). But you can kill that weak opponents anyways (also this is a main Evocation Mages target - lots of weak opponets). So IMHO it's not really useful, and really bad for a Barbarian because he hasn't a lot of feats.
It is very effective when fighting multiple oponents, weak or strong, especially when you are a low level. For my barabrians, they usually have a low AC, but are very strong, so the faster they can kill an oponent, the better. With cleave they drop one opponent and then immediately (often) deal damage to a second as a free action. The cleave does fail sometimes, but when it doesnt it can be a life saver, especially when you normally only have one or two attacks a round. In my experience anyway.
