because it would create multiclassing difficulties

I still might go back to one (I do like the idea of Rogue/Illusionist/Artificer)

    • I could go 2 rogue, 3 wizard

but that would ahve the problem of multiclassing later on

it is a long way from here, but where do I go from there?

I figure I would probably need to develope my character from a merchant, but I still like to have my life all planned out (I am fine making changes in it as a go along though)

IMO, the journey should make a character, not predetermined choices.

You'll spend your time trying to roleplay locations and situations into your initial choices, rather than letting your natural spontaneous roleplay and choices in the campaign determine who the character is.

        • well, at least the type of person I am playing (And am) is someone who makes a plan for far in advance

than rolls with what life brings them

I could start taking sorcerer levels after this one (because some advent)

she is thinking that right now though

          • I think it is important to play a character with goals, that way there is incentive and motive... Playing some one who merely rolls with the punchs does not yeild to a very determined character.

I see your point. However, there is a difference between a character that has a long term desire/plan to become a spellcaster, and a player who has already planned out class levels, skills, and feats over the next several character levels. Its the latter I have an issue with, but that's just me.

              • I have no problem with a character planning that out, thing is though, they might change their mind if the story is well thoughout... They can have career goals, I see nothing wrong about that, as far as character development is concerned.

When I got out of college I knew what I wanted to be when I got out, why can't they?

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, I see what you are saying though....

                • well, I am giong to be an artisan for a while, and than become an artificer (at least that is my plan) just like my father

I was hoping to go on to being an artificer as soon as possible, but it seems as if I must gain a lot of knowledge about how to craft first

I think I will be an artificer into the far future, but can't help but wonder about where I Would go from there?

                  • Craftsman rock....

I mentioned before, but I once played a builder (mage/preist) who loved to build churches and shrines... It was a lot of fun...

As for an artificer, what type of craft are you going to go into? That could help...

                    • I was thinking I would learn the craft of metalworking (and some craft of weaponsmithing and armorsmithing), but I must say that I am not entirely sure

                        • If you go into metal working you should also think about smelting... I don;t think you will ever have to worry about where you would go from there...

The enchantment methods may be tough and require a lot of material componets that would be hard to get... That would make some crazy adventures!

In all no matter what you decide on would be fun...

                          • As in artificer I will make equpiment and weapons that will have magical effects which I can than sell for money (but at a cheaper cost than the party could buy from a store)

                            • Well, artifacts come in all forms...

I new a character that made cards (trumps) that could do a lot of things... painting and writting/caligraphy were his thing...

Also, because of my character building habits, I was getting into Golem construction before I died...

Gem cutting could make some magical weapons as well as some powerful rings... jewlers?

Tailors could make some nice peices of clothes and cloaks that would greatly advantage a party...

Weapons and armor are nice though, but far less rare than other items.

                              • The type of artificer I am studying to be is a gnome artificer, maybe that is different

I mostly will just serve what the people want to buy
