  • So , 12 on constitution, and I can go up on another by one. Make it wisdom.

    • i have a question in regards to skills. i'm allowed 12. I was thinking of taking

      Climb
      Jump
      Move Silently
      Ride
      Swim
      Tumble

      Ellestar advized to take three with four ranks in each. What does ranks in mean.

      If I choose six skills that would mean I have two ranks in each. Does this just make me better in these skills. ie their result x2?

      Is it better to choose 1, 3 6 or 12??

      • To Makeo:
        then you are using a skill, you are rolling 1d20+rank in this skill+modifiers (ability, magic items etc.) vs a Difficulty Class (DC) of a given task (easier task - lower DC)

        You may have no more than (3+Character Level) ranks in class skills (see your class description for a list of class skills or a table in Skills Chapter in PHB) and no more than (3+Character Level)/2 in cross-class skill.

        You must pay double amount of skill points to increase cross-class skills.

        • hmm... before i finish my character, i had a question about house rules:

          See, when i play with my friends, we thought it was both easier and better (more realistic) to have the tower shield just work like the tower shields do in the DnD video games (Neverwinter nights and baldurs gate, for example, tho i know baldurs gate was 2nd ed rules), that is they are just like Large shields, but give a +3 to AC. We toyed around with maybe declaring the use of it to hide behind or whatever, like the rules for using it in 3rd editon have you use it, but decided it was just easiest and made most sense for a tower shield to give +3 to AC.

          I was wondering if we could use the Tower Shield like this, or if we are gonna do it by the book. I personally think this is much better and easier and makes more sense, tho it does kinda downgrade the potential effectiveness of the tower shield.

          in the meantime i guess ill just do it as i have it, and can always go back and change it before we start playing, if need be.

          • ok i think i understand that. so by me taking 2 ranks in 6 rather than four ranks in 3 i am reducing my roll value by two correct?

            do you think this is a problem?

              usually, the best startegy is to concentrate and speacialize in a few areas, rather than spreading yourslef thin and being well rounded. The thought behind this is if everyone in a party speacializes in something different, youll have someone really good at something (hopefully meaning the party will have everything covered with osmeone skillful).

              Therefore, it is best in my opinion at 1st level to put 4 ranks into as many skills as you can, rather then putting a few ranks in everything

              • MattH asked
                In 3rd, does the Priest still get a 10%exp bonus w/ a wisdom of 16?
                No, 3rd doesn't give experience point boosts for having a good primary stat, because characters with a good primary stat benefit enough from simply having a good primary stat

                        • So I screwed up? Cause I'm fairly rounded.
                          I DID give some tiny emphasis to a Ranger's strong-suit.
                          Or should I have emphasized the others instead?
                          Hell with it. I'm holding what I got.
                          And from a previous statement of mine, I can't lower constitution and raise Wisdom. Different cost, so I'll raise intelligence.

                          Human Ranger, good if that comes into play.

                          Strength = 14 (cost of 6)
                          Dexterity = 14 (cost of 6)
                          Constitution = 12 (cost of 5)
                          Intelligence = 14 (cost of 5)
                          Wisdom = 14 (cost of 6)
                          Charisma = 12 (cost of 4)

                          I guess this will do.

                          This will be my name. "Kyllight Cindwesdon"
