There's a microwave in our apartment. It hasn't been used since 1996, apparently my parents got bored to it just a few years after it's purchasement, now the only reason why it lays there wasting space seems to be convincing the rare visitors that we aren't savages.

Same thing applies to our TV, too.

In England as a student I lived without a Microwave, a cell phone or cable/vhs/dvd. I would concievably have lived without a credit card too.

What I cannot understand is people living without Broadband- surely that's a basic human necessity?

We don't have a microwave at home, nor a video recorder or DVD player (except in the computer).

I do have a cell phone (I got it for free), but I only use it as an alarm clock anyway (turned off otherwise).

Similarly, my hifi set is broken, so I only use the radio... as an alarm clock.

At uni we are forced to use the ntl 1p a minute dial-up service.

On the plus side, we got extra channels on TV.
