I couldn't find out any reference as to how often players would play/when they 'meet'/chat etc. I might be interested, but I suggest that you link the active thread to previous inactive threads so that old information can be found out easily if it is relevant.

I'm thinking some might run in the thread and partially via e-mail and/or PMs (not every action a character takes needs to be made public).
What I was thinking of doing actually was to start everyone in a rather large tavern/inn/whatever (yes, how cliche) populated with at least 5 NPCs that have some sort of problem they wish to have taken care of, as well as some minor NPCs. Over the course of a couple real days, the PCs would make their entrance, describe their characters, etc. They would talk to the NPCs and decide which of the quests they'd be interested in (this would lead to the partition in multiple groups) and after that the individual DMs could probably go from there.
That being said, there's a lot of organization stuff that needs to happen before we get to that stage, such as deciding firmly which edition, setting, houserules, character creation rules, etc. Then creating all the characters, and helping the people who are new to this create their characters, etc.
(We might need more than 2 threads for this. Heck a whole forum would be nice, but we don't have that at the moment, and we might not need the whole forum after the business of figuring out where and how we're playing is settled.)"The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists."

*newbie speaks*
So can i go about creating myself a character or do I need to wait for the DM?
Questions: I've been looking around and I guess my character needs a character sheet with stats and stuff. Does the DM assign stats?
Can I decide what weapons/armour I have?
Should I write a character background kind of thing?
I have other questions but can't remember them right now. I'll be back.
I have no skill in writing fantasy but will give it a good try. No laughing.Hold my girlfriend while I kiss your skis.

Character creation will be done by the players with the characters then run by the DMs for approval. In general legal characters will be approved, this is just to try to catch mistakes in the char creation process (both in the character's favor and otherwise (like say you forget to assign all your skill points)). Character creation can't really start until we decide how to assign stats, how much money you get, etc.
You can start thinking of a character background and/or write it because that's really not that subject to rules or stuff like that."The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists."

As im new to PBE, online type roll play (played D&D loads before - but was face to face).
Do I assume I develop a Character persona / background in terms of something like this.
Character:
Dorgbeard Longshanks (Fighter) of Akinarie, born of a blood lust between rival feudining knights to unite the quarraling tribes. Trained in the art of swordsmanship by Darwield or Derberinan (Master Swordsman). On a quest to prove his valuour in order to fulfill his destiny and in serach of the keep of the fallen Knight "Dingdong"
-> Excuse the name Dingdong but twas the name of a much prized 9th level fighter I once lost in battle with a Red Dragon way back in around 1982.
