I haven't bought anything on it for over a year, since the last time I was sick and didn't have much choice in the matter.

Well, I guess the two of you have to decide which is more important to you; a big wedding or being impatient.
We'd have no problem losing the big wedding, it's just the living expenses thereafter which will cause problems.

I suppose you could always see about getting other jobs but I'd suggest you wait until you finish college. Seeing as they have no benefits I'm assuming that you don't have to give notice very long before quitting so if t really bothers you then you could always try and look for other work.
I've been looking into this, I just can't find anything which will pay more but still have the flexibility I'll need come fall.

Have you told your contact at the Media Festival? From the sounds of it there really is no way out of it ( if you can afford to go, you can't afford to go ) and you really aught to tell the people organising it that you won't be able to make it if you haven't already.
Yeah, they are aware of the problem...we're trying to get corporate sponsorship to go over from MBNA (financial outfit which is headquartered just down the road from the university and has been known to donate funds every once in a while.)

Don't colleges offer some kind of health cover? I really don't know enough about the American health care service... it's all a bit too bonkers for me.
Yeah, I got the student health plan from UMaine. It doesn't extend to the summer months...and even if it did, it is only valid at the University's clinic which is open from 11AM-2PM twice a week and horribly gouges prescription costs. It's too bonkers for me, too.

It sounds like your fiancee has some issues she needs to work out with her parents. Why did they cancel the financial support? Has she tried to reason with them?
They cancelled it because they've planned to cancel it all along after 4 years of college...they just didn't change their minds when it was going to take an extra semester to finish. (There's only two or three people in our program who have ever finished in 4 years.)

The department demands you have something which you are forced to foot the bill for? Sounds like a **** system to me.
Oh, but we can get more student loans for it, so they don't care....

Spots ( is it spots or blotches? ) don't tend to mean something is eating you. Its almost certainly some kind of rash. If it was short term chances are it would be an allergic reaction ( which may have been what your Doctor assumed ) but if its persisted you might want to get it looked at ( have any friends doing pre-med? ) Try to find out if you're scratching it - you might be doing it without noticing. If you ARE then you might want to try out E45 which works with most skin irritations.
Eh, blotches. And it doesn't itch, never has...it's just there. And I was kidding about the eating me part. Mostly.

Eat more fresh fruit. Drink plenty of fluids. Get more exercise. Cannae hurt, can it?
    Already headed in that direction...

Yeah but you knew that was going to be what the course would involve when you got into doing computer science ( or whatever it is they're calling it where you are ). It's all pseudocode and flow charts and performance criteria with very little actual coding. I'm sure it'll get better once you actually graduate and start applying what you've been learning in the real world.
Yeah, I actually don't mind it that much now that I'm here, I just get pangs every once in a while when I hand off a chunk of something I've designed to somebody else for the actual implimentation.

Can't you just... change the oil then?
Well, if you're going to be all reasonable and stuff....

And Q: Been there, it's no fun...I'm sorry man.

I'm moving to a smaller town (Charleston, Illinois) for graduate school, where I do not know anyone at this point.
I hope I make a couple of good friends there, like I have here.

Plus, there is no gay nightlife to speak of in Charleston -- will have to go clubbing in another city in the area on some weekends.

Hey, thanks for posting to all, and esp. to those who actually cared for my "problems", and everyone who cared to write their own problems.

I hope that I can remember all questions, my browser and Pc are so slow that every thread beyond three pages is a monster thread to me.

In the play, I'm the leader of the male choir, who is now an 80+-year old geezer who is still horny (and wants the 80+-year old leader of the female choir). Actually, it's quite funny, but it's very difficult at the moment.

Concerning the girl, I have decided to make one last attempt of showing her my feelings. She wasn't in school this week, but (I hope) she will return on Monday.
Thing is, she has made herself very unpopular in my class, and I've taken the role of the sole defender (partially because I feel that the way they're treating her is truly unjust, partially because... it's her). Maybe she will learn of this, and all that. But in any case, I will try to talk to her. If I fail, I will forget it. The distance between here and where she'll be moving is way too far anyway.
On the other hand, however, chances might even be that she already moved there and I won't see her again. She tells nobody, that's what makes it so difficult.

I'm rather sure that I will make this year by now, chances seem good. I'm just a born pessimist, I think.
Concerning next year, almost everybody thinks that I would make it. But I'm just horrible in Maths, and if I'm unmotivated, I can be bad in every subject. In the last test, my grade in German even dropped to the level French had risen (which would be D in the American grade system, I think).

Of course, if my favourite record has a scratch, I can buy a new one. Even cheaper than I got this one, since it's hardly a rarity (for those who care, it's "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd); I paid 12€ for it IIRC, and used ones in good conditions already sell for 8€. It's just the fact that of all my records, this one has to get the scratch.

Point is... I'm very frustrated because I too have virtually no social life. I envy everyone who has a girlfriend, and I'm feeling very lonely at some times. And every attempt to get a grab on some sort of social life seems to be doomed.

Well... in any case, thanks for the replies, and if someone has a further suggestion or two, don't hesitate...

Oh yeah... and the reasons why I want to get out of here...

First, I hate the village I'm living in. It's boring, nothing is happening, and it's hard to get away from here (horrible bus connection).
Then, I hate the area I'm living in. Generally, I hate Germany, but this area seems to be the worst of the entire country (Central Franconia).
I wanna be somewhere where I can be free, do whatever I like, meet whoever I like, go wherever I like... this is a hard thing here.
I'm really stressed by school, my family (woke up last night at 1.00 o'clock because my dad's shouting woke me... it's not that this would be common, but currently, my family is annoying me)... I don't want to take it anymore. I want to be responsible for the things I do, and I just don't want others to take the responsibilities anymore, either by "helping" me, by trying to do things for me... I know they mean it good, but this is really annoying.

To answer possible questions of where I'd like to live... Canada... Iceland... even London would do it for me.
