How are Intel and Apple competitors? One makes chips while the other makes software and hardware. They're in different markets.

Take a gander at Apple's forums on the new iPod -- there's tons of people *****ing about Apple's falling software quality as they try to maintain secrecy by using very small beta tests.

Apple is not in the market for an elite clientele. They don't deliberatly keep supply down to drive demand up and thus prices up (though with their high prices ). And seeing their advertising is now going for PC users, it's obvious that they aren't going for the same market Ferrari is going for.
