    What other obsessions are particular within American culture?
    A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

      The inexplicable assumption that socialists = communists.

      The amazing theory that democracy is the best form of government and cannot be improved.

      Mind you, it's pretty trivial compared to some of OUR hangups.
      Some cry `Allah O Akbar` in the street. And some carry Allah in their heart.

            Communism/Socialism.
            After all, the big guys that tried it have all found out it sucks, and are struggling towards democracy and capitalism.
            Only in the "advanced world" do people not realize how well off they have it.

                        I definitely agree with you -- we need to stop misinterpreting history. Such as the fallicious claim that the Confederacy lost the war without ever losing a battle, since Confederate soldiers had this "invincible martial" spirit.

                        Or better yet -- that slavery was never an issue in the United States.
                        A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

                          Like slavery was as wide-spread as some would claim, when in actuality owner's were in the minority.
                          Like ignoring totally that American Indians were slaves before and after.

                          Things like that.
