It was the exact same model suite of electronics, for several compartments. This, combined with it's continue lay up, has led Janes and other sources to guesstimate there was a yard casulty.

maybe yes, maybe no. Read some Mahan and some books about Mahan. Then we can have the discussion on that basis. I guess, the key thing for the US is that it basically controls the seas and allows free trade everywhere. In a world, without that, things would be much more interesting. It's a little like having air superiority. You value it most when it's missing.

There are still pirates in some areas, but I am alluding more to maintaing the ability for free trade accross the seas and for transshipment of troopships/equipment and power-projection ships.
