"Many Americans do not want persons who openly engage in homosexual conduct as partners in their business, as scoutmasters for their children, as teachers in their children's schools, or as boarders in their home. They view this as protecting themselves and their families from a lifestyle that they believe to be immoral and destructive."

Uh.... which is TRUE, Agathon... unless you think everyone is tolerant of homosexuals and would love to have them as role models. That view is, frankly, unrealistic.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

It just goes to show that your hero is a hate-mongering blow hole and shouldn't be on the nation's highest court.

You know, if white suburban kids like to copy minorities, does this mean they'll eventually copy gay culture styles in clothing and slang?

Damn it -- someone else beat me to creating a thread on the latest good news.

I'm glad that there's still a chance that American citizens can have their right to privacy protected. It doesn't matter that the law was rarely enforced -- it's the principle of what is right and what is wrong.

I was very happy when I first read this news during my lunch break at work when I went to Yahoo website.

A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

You wouldn't know a legal argument if it bit you on the ass.

But I know an evil, corrupt piece of crap when I see it. Don't cry because I'm attacking your hero, Imran.

As legal scholars continually say, 'Scalia captured our minds, while Kennedy captured our hearts'.

Of course it's true. But it doesn't mean that their prejudices should become law.

                              Why Scalia's argument is ****:

"Many Americans do not want persons who openly engage in homosexual conduct as partners in their business, as scoutmasters for their children, as teachers in their children's schools, or as boarders in their home. They view this as protecting themselves and their families from a lifestyle that they believe to be immoral and destructive."

Tell me, considering the men in the case were arrested for having sex in the privacy of their own home, how that could possibly be considered "open"?

The last time I looked, gay business partners, scout masters or teachers weren't throwing their lovers over a chair in a public place and screwing them silly for all to see. I'd think I'd be aware of such behavior!

Scalia's argument is crap because the case wasn't dealing with open behavior, but private, consentual acts of sex. If he claims that states have a right to enact laws which target people who merely are perceived or known to be homosexual (which is what openly homosexual means), then he's got definite problems.
                              Tutto nel mondo è burla

It is not the Year of the Gay, it is the Year of the Ram.

Heterosexual sodomy was also illegal, but now Americans can bugger whoever they want !

...meanwhile, in Canada, it is now legal to marry in one province and soon nationally. (...except for Asher's home province. )
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.
