One of my friends is a freak at DDR. I've got buddies that work at Gala Lanes Arcade in Naperville, so I get free key tokens. Instead of coins, they give you these electronic keys that you put money into. I've got like 4 keys with about a grand each.

the problem with games like that is they really arent an indicator of dancing ability because dancing is not all lower body work. look at some of the best poppers and lockers. although they do have amazing footwork, they also have amazing upper body ability.

No, they just sit there and sulk while the women folk scorn them complaining, "We never go dancing anymore."

Arcades are boring these days. There are always those lousy fighting games, dancing games, and first person shooters. Where are the Gaunlet's and Tempest's?

I only used to play Mortal Kombat at arcades. Now I have it on the Nintendo.

I totally suck at it, but my BF is incredible at it. He's a DDR addict.

Even built his own real DDR pad with steel, etc. for home. And practices with weighted ankles.

He spent over an hour today alone playing DDR Extreme, drew quite a crowd. Even passed the extra stages.

I played one of these games at the local Dave & Busters.

I went after these two girls who were kicka**. My friends bought me a shot of Bacardi 151 for my (miserable) efforts.

Ixnay-My friend has the pad at home. How much does it cost? I have Bust a Groove 1 and 2.......

I opted for the cheapo pad which is now falling apart. Still works, but I wouldn't give it much more time before I have to find another one. I got it for $15, plus a Playstation -> USB adapter for 15 more. Depending on how solid you want to get it, you can spend up to 300 on one.

The closest I've come to DDR is watching Bobby on "King of the Hill" use a similar gaming machine while visiting Japan with his dad, who was meeting with a long-lost half-brother.

We have a DDR pad at home, along with pretty much every version of DDR that came out in Europe. My brother's girlfriend brought hers around to our house once and my mum got so hooked on it she went out and bought a Playstation just so she could play DDR. She's barking.

I would guess the main reason for the rise in dance games, racers, and FPSs lies in the fact that consoles are growing increasingly powerful. You can play the latest incarnation of gauntlet at more or less the same image quality at home for free, so there's no point in bothering with the arcade version, is there? Whereas it's still pretty hard to get the "in-the-zone" feeling, or whatever you hep cats are calling it of actually driving in a racing game or holding the gun for an FPS. Yes, there are light-gun accessories and wheels for consoles, but it's not the same. As for fighting games, I'm inclined to blame the lack of friends who will consistently take a beatdown at the hands of a guy who's mastered Tekken. Arcades are still necessary in that case, just to supply fresh blood.
Never even seen a dance game firsthand. I'm told they're great fun to play when you're drunk.
