The various red herrings you raise were all actually adressed in the court decision as well as a few that you did not raise.

The decision is a solid, well reasoned piece and provides very few avenues for successful appeal.

The bottom line is that the court saw the ability to marry as being a right or benefit and there was no logical reason to exclude a whole class of two person relationships. They addressed

1. family and procreation-- no difference except that gay couples obtain their children in a different manner. They are no less families

2. "The marriage is a man-woman thing because thats what it is" argument

Sorry . . . marriage has evolved from the days where a wife was the property of her husband to the present day. The above argument is the same as saying that a voter is a propertied white man because thats the way its always been.


Basically the court reasoned that there was no harm to heterosexual married couples in allowing homosexual couples to marry.


It is a good decision and is to be applauded

Three problems

1. there would be one too many penis in the relationship to fit my personal orientation

2. I am already married

3. I live in Alberta and the government has been vehement that they will not permit same-sex marriage here and are even willing to overrride the Charter to continue this position.
