I don't get the point here.

Tabloid is a form of newspaper, so is broadsheet. It describes the physical shape of it. The NYT or the LA Times are broadsheets. The NY Post and the NY daily News are tabloids.

As for whether they are 'daily' or not, who gives a crap?

Do you have any examples? (that's an honest question)

The biggest news has been the Iraq war and its aftermath. In the aftermath, BBC World News kept chasing press releases from human rights organizations about this or that "crisis". Basically, it's stock news. Their reporters aren't giving them good in-depth reporting on the ground, so they fill it with news created by others. At best, in this instance, BBC World News is offering free advertising for these groups. At worst, they could distort the priorities of the occupation.

American TV news often does the same thing. For instance, drug companies put out press releases with video footage. The news then runs with a health news segment, which parrots the drug company line and shows drug company footage. The only hitch is that it's not really news.

To be clear, my criticism doesn't really extend to the weekend. The World News then often runs some excellent in-depth reporting.

But during the week, mostly what you have is breathless reporters talking about this or that crisis. You can tell they haven't an original thought in their heads.

I think most articles by the BBC are biased, although not along political lines.

They've been leading this whole "there's no evidence of weapons in Iraq" thing for about four days now.

On their front page all day of bbc.co.uk/news has also been an article suggesting we are overplaying the terrorist threat.

Looks to me like they are trying to show the war was unjustified.

This is not bias, this is truth

Three days in a row on the front page? I noticed that too, but I think it's 4 days in a row.

There are two biases here, even if you discount the fact that there are political motivations either at BBC or they're following others' political motivations. One is the relative importance of this news versus other very big competing news. Two is the relative weight of this news within the articles.

The articles have been breathless--as if Blair's government is going to fall over this and Bush is not going to be reelected because of it. First off, it's premature to say that there aren't WMD in Iraq. Also, I don't know about the stability of the Blair government, but it's maybe taken 1 percentage point off of Bush's approval rating. A full 54% of Americans don't care whether WMD are ever found.

I'm in this 54%, as I think it would be useful to clip the wings slightly of the neoconservatives in this administration.

That's America. The BBC is a British organisation, and Blair is far more vulnerable.
