Blonde hair/Blue eyes was big when Marilyn Monroe was sporting those characteristics... because everyone wanted to be like her. Monroe WAS the epitome of beauty for generations.

And most Americans like the blond hair / blue eyes.

Well mostly, in the modern world.

She was the Michael Jordan of beauty . She was the poster girl (pun intended) of generations. She dated a President and one of the best baseball players of all time. She was the biggest celebrity of the age, and people thought she was incredibly beautiful.

Of course, the funny part is that she wasn't a natural blonde, IIRC... she just looked sexier with that platinum blonde hair.

Of course, that was just in the US. I think blond hair / blue eyes was held up because people look VERY attractive with that set up (if they are thin and all ).

I find it funny arguing about this. I never understood these sorts of categorisation. Either someone looks attractive ( in various degrees) or they don't. Hair, skin, eye colour may play a part, but are not on any scale, just how they match that particular person.

I said that people like Oerdin think that the blue-eyed blonde is the ideal that girls are left wishing they could be... wouldn't believe how many times i've heard people complain that they are indoctrinated to like or be like northern europeans! but no the ideal is for the mediterrenean brunette! Not the blue-eyed blonde!

if it is not, disprove what i was saying about tanning and light-skinnedness...

I'm with you on this. Whenever I go to Lima, I see all these middle and upper class women dying their hair blonde. Lots of them also get nose jobs to europeanize their noses (oh, and their ancestry according to them comes directly from Spanish nobility ) Combine this with widespread anorexia to meet the thin ideal. Creating this single ideal is destructive to women. Besides, variety is the spice of life!

Man, this is a waste because Peruvian women are beautiful as is! Give me dark hair, natural features, and some curvature!

I don't like blonde hair personally - but to each his own. Let's just stop this destructive drive to set one universal standard of beauty.

Blonde is still the beauty standard. Anectdotal evidence from many woman shows that as soon as they went blonde, they started getting more attention and more success. Even Bunnygrrl noticed it. When she wears her blonde wigs, she gets treated like a star and men wonder what the hell she's doing with a fat slob like me . . . and she's Black!

Marilyn Monroe wasn't a natural blonde. Her career didn't happen until she became a blonde. The same with Jane Mansfield and a zillion other stars.
