people always say that there's a blue-eyed blonde beauty ideal but i don't buy it. i don't see how people are trying to be northern european. if anything, they're trying to be mediterrenean...

think about it... why do white people get tans? Why is there this idea of the "tall, dark, and handsome" man? Why do plenty of men and women like light-skinned women and men respectively?

I even heard that some women were getting plastic surgery to increase the size of their rear a la a certain puerto rican actress.

so i dont see how there is a blonde, blue-eyed standard of beauty. the standard of beauty is clearly for the caramel-toned/coffee with cream skin, black hair, and brown/black eyes.

I don't think beauty is something confined by racial guidelines. There are hot white women, hot latin women, hot asian women, hot indian women, hot black women... basically... there are hot women in every ethnic group. America is great because we get to see all of them.

And as I said, the beauty ideal is rarely about the skin colour, it's about contrast, and shapes. That is what makes sexual attraction.

The pale ideal is an old one, but a hard one to die, and the whole Blond thing does keep going strong. Few blonds darken thier hair, while plenty of women do bleach their hair.

Tanning is not about looking more mediterranean, but looking like you aren't inside for 24 hours a day (ie., you are active and healthy).

I agree that the olive skin, black eyes and hair look is better, and it is also much more common, which is why perhaps we still cling to the blond, blue eyes, because it is rare comapred to brunette beauty.

Albert, I agree that there is a standard to beauty, but I don't think that skin colour is a very large component. And I fail to see why you pay so much attention to it.

Speer: Where do you hear this? I watch TV. I see movies. I listen to music. I have never heard the message: "Blonde hair, blue eyes is beautiful..." or "Mediterranean is beautiful..."

Models that I see on TV are of all colors, shapes, and sizes. (except for the grossly obese)
