Neutron bombs aren't a bad idea if you need to go big bomb. But there is still a stigma from decades ago concerning these things. I guess the fear is that since they will only destroy flesh for the most part, Neutron bombs might encourage nuclear war.

For Russia? I doubt. I'm still doubt you are able to deliver a single nuke to Russian terrritory. But I'm absolutely sure that a single Russian ICBM SS-18 Satan with 10 MIRV is more than enough to stop the endless Arab-Iraelis showdowns. (As well as any other showdowns in Middle East for a next couple of hundreds years. )

As for Israel striking Moscow and St Petersburg, I'd be surprised. I thought Israel's deterrent was launched from the torpedo tubes of a conventional sub. Not saying it can't go 100s of kilometres, but that far? That's one very efficient missile.

These estimates (100-400) are based on the size of the cooling towers at Dimona assuming they are 100% efficient.

As they clearly can't be, less than 400 would be the smart guess.

Unless of course, you have found a way to conceal a reactor's IR emissions. A good trick that would be.

I guess your treatment of Mordecai Vanunu left no one in any doubt as to what would happen to any whistle blowers - but there are plenty of US citizens who challenge and criticise some of Israel's behaviour. Hence the amount of conjecture and speculation - the more you hide a secret, the more people want to know why (and why you're hiding it, of course).
