If the person in question would do a favour for me should I need it, then yes I would help them. If the person in question wouldn't do a favour for me, relative or not, then I would charge them for my time.

I'm not going to let people I don't like screw me over.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

If $ is involved, or if the job leads to further leads, I'd call it a professional job. If not, heck, I am just a helper, I could walk out if I don't like it.

Pekka, this one is simple: Send them an invoice. For, say, $250. Don't have an invoice? MS Excel has a few templates ready for you to use.

Another good reason for sending them an invoice: You can put the company down as a work reference on future resumes/applications.

Good idea, but wouldn't people call up the place and ask them about it?

What if she wants you to cut your nads off?

It's just hypothetical, mind you, but it's a bit dangerous to use words such as "anything."

Probably not, but if they did, so what?

                          Re: Are you 'yes' man?

Damn. I almost always do what I'm asked to do if someone refers to me personally. Better or worse. For example, some days ago a guy asked me to buy sth. He was obviously a cheater, and though I knew He probably is, I decided to buy his product just so that He wouldn't be disappointed in his hope I would buy it. Also, I spend a lot of money last time giving money to anyone asked me to give it to him. I participated in some action of feeding children in poorer regions, twice,
I "bought" an elephant and a pen from people (I don't know if it's a common way of begging in your places) who were offering it in exchange for financial support, I gave some money to other beggars, and I always give my sit to elderly people in busses and tramways though I think it is in fact dumb thing to do, as they go out after one stop and very often don't even thank You. When it comes to giving money, I very rarely can stop myself from doing that. I don't know why, because again I think it is stupid. I often don't eat though all day because I'm too mean to buy myself something more than a bounty or something and a coke tin, but...
That becomes quite a serious problem to me. When I was robbed some months ago I promessed myself I won't give money to beggars because I lost all my savings in fact, but it didn't stop and now I run out of money very quickly.

You just need to become more cynical.

Now I only give to charities such as Oxfam. It's not possible to tell if a beggar on the street needs the money - he might have more $ than you!

Heresson, you bought elephant and a pen? That's original!

Sleeping can do wonders, I'm charged and ready to fight again! I'm not that pissed anymore, but I'm still thinking of putting mines on all exits and then launching the fire alarms and waiting survivors with guns. I think that'll teach'em to be nice to people .
