Why is fur worse than leather
"Because we only wanna save the cute furry animals, don't we? Yeah!"

    "What are you?"
    "I'm an Otter."
    "And what do you do?"
"I swim around and do cute human things with my hands!"
    "You're free to go."

    "What are you?"
    "I'm a Cow."
    "Get on the truck!"
"But I'm an animal, I have rights!"
"You're a baseball glove, now get on the ****ing truck with your brother!"

As Sava notes, cats can be useful. My in-laws own a farm and always put out a big bowl of milk every night to attract cats. Mice and rats can overrun a farm in a very short time if not dealt with. Cats are an efficient and extremely cheap way of keeping rodent populations controlled. These are mean and nasty barn cats, semi- to mostly feral.

What the Hell kind of name is that for a cat ?
        Scarred for life.
No wonder he's cowed big old dogs.

BTW, if Sava were a cat...

When he dies, the estate will pass to the trustees, Layne's former neighbors, Ann and Eugene Wheatley, who deliver Tinker's food and milk each day.
Anyone else see a small conflict of interest?

Not mentioned in the article, but dogs undergo the same treatment, better start getting p*ssed off.

Re the farming of cats: Are there any suggestions as to how one herds cats? Now that would be a skill.

In life has been determined by the name.
The name was determined by life, not vice-versa. When he was a wee thing of about a pound at most, he scared two adult cats into abject terror, back to back, on the middle of my bed, because that was the biggest spot they could find that he couldn't reach. Once he learned to reach the bed, one cat lived in a lump under the sheets, one in the gap between the box springs under the bed, and one in the corner of the space on top of the cupboard over the refrigerator. The other 99.95% of the condo was Velociraptor country, but he didn't mind letting the other cats live if he didn't have to actually see them and they stayed put in their allowed locations.

The sound effects of him eating a can of cat food when he thinks someone is after his food supply are right out of Jurassic Park, too. Someday, I've got to record that - it contains sounds never made by any other housecat.

He was sick not too long ago, had lost a lot of weight, so he needed to go to the vets. Unfortunately for all concerned, I had to be up north.

The exam didn't go too well, that whole rectal thermometer thing just wasn't gonna happen this side of hell, despite LTEC! and 3-4 people at the vet's office.

So "Petunia" is not a real good choice of working name for this cat.

The vet ended up doing a visual exam from a bit of a distance, presribed a cocktail of vitamins, antibiotic, painkiller and anti-inflammatory to be given by injection, and said "good luck."

Of course, after I got some canned food in him, and he felt a little better, he was putty in my hands so I had no problem giving him the shots. He wouldn't let anyone else do that to him, though.

Put them in small cages so they have no where to go. Sadly, I think this is what they do.
