I watched part of the first half and the whole second half. The couple of Bok tries in that patch in the second half lifted them back into a match they had no right to win. Apart from that patch, I thought the Scots outplayed them and were very stiff to lose.

Ultimately, though, I suppose it means the Boks and Scotland are pretty evenly matched. I'm not sure where that places the Boks in the overall quality scheme of things.

Sorry about that, Tamerlin. It looks like I'm an absolute jinx. Still, there is a bright side - I'm going to support Tigers next season.

I'm afraid it's not very high, since the Scots are not currently to their brightest.

          • Nice to see Hydey conforming to the worst stereotype of Aussie fan – surely you can come up with more than ‘Go Aussies’?

Flavell was after his head before he even hit the ground.
Absolutely clear cut then – the head must be left alone. Lets hope he doesn’t do an encore today (but then nobody playing today will feature in the two tests anyway – but I’m sure they would rather not have stud marks on their skull).

I like the Alan Blake bit.
            As did I.

We are all Maori and can invoke such at any convenient moment.
But this was even better Cal.

Okay so the games – it was very disappointing that Ireland failed to turn up but you have to hand it to the Aussies they stepped up to the plate. In particular I thought the hair back pairing of Gregan and Flatley really bossed the show. They controlled the game superbly for you.

And boy did I laugh when I saw that it was Nigel Williams refereeing – you poor sods.

I still contrived to miss the penalty try (making tea of alls things) – what were the circs?

I would agree with the consensus that the Scotland game was more exciting. They must be absolutely gutted not to have taken the game. Even at the death I thought the Boks looked ropey in defence and it was such a shame the lad knocked on. Some very liberal refereeing from Mr Jutge did not help of course.

Where does it place the Boks? As LdiCesare said quite low on the ladder. England dismissed Scotland 40-9 in the six nations without ever getting out of second gear…

Still, there is a bright side - I'm going to support Tigers next season.
            Nooooooooooo!

Sorry about the Parisian thieves Tamerlin.

I’m taping the Maori game and trying to dodge knowing the score – I have heard the weather is atrocious and that might help us.

              It's Finbar's fault!

Yes, the Irish fell apart, didn't they? I might have to concede that Flatley has more talent than I've thought before. He doesn't have the magic of a Larkham, but he does what he does very very well.

I think he baffled even the Irish, who should have known him a lot better than the Wallabies.

Flatley, from memory, and an Ireland player charging after the ball towards our try line. They were shoulder-to-shoulder. Flatley (if it was him) got a step ahead and suddenly went down. It looked like to everybody - except the ref - like he'd stumbled or tripped himself. Lo and behold, the replay showed the Ireland player hadn't interfered with him.

                Nooooooooooo!

What do you expect with only half a recipe!

A written promise not to support the Stade Toulousain next season could help me find the second part of the recipe.

Still at least now ytou can talk about it freely.

Sounds like grayson had a nightmare game? Injure Wilko and you neutralise England for RWC (but then we already knew that?).

Mmmmm. Interesting choice. Make your life misery, or get the second half of a recipe? Let me think about it ...

I'd forgotten they were playing. I just had to look up the result.

Yep. The whole world already knew that. As Campo so sagely said - England's biggest weakness is their reliance on one player.

BTW, I notice Balshaw is on this tour. Where's he been since the ignominy of his last tour?

                            Strangely enough not Maori.

It sounds like the teams played against type – Vickery generally making us kick for touch rather than take penalties and the Maoris the ones taking potshots..

Whether it tells us anything useful who knows – that was definitely a second string England side and the Kiwi press are probably already working on the reasons why that was a ‘developmental’ Maori side.

England's biggest weakness is their reliance on one player.
The irony is he got that one right – but identified the wrong man. Johnson is the irreplaceable rock on which the team is founded. At the moment Wilko falls into that category too because the injury to Sale’s Charlie Hodgson has taken out his understudy. Hodgson is good – very good, and we will miss him at the RWC.

It’s worth noting by the way that Grayson and King both got a run today – that should mean Wilko starting on Saturday.

Balshaw has had a torrid time – I think I’ve mentioned before that Graham Henry killed his confidence with the Lions – his form dipped dramatically when he returned and then, just as the spark was returning, he picked up a serious knock that kept him out for five months or so. He has also been plagued by injury this season and hasn’t had a consistent run. He still has great promise but with Lewsey on sparkling form and Robinson and Simspon-Daniel at the top of Clive’s winger list it will be hard work for him to break back in.

Still, stranger things have happened. Who would have believed two years ago that the Lip would miss selection for RWC?

                            • Also I hear Smith is ruled out for both Wales and England becuase of a neck injury?

Waugh is a capable replacement but I feel Smithy is a better counter to Backy to be honest.

And Burke has trouble with his knee too? You need that A team home right now?!

Hodgson can be as good as he likes - he's not Wilkinson. I'd acknowledge the J**** thing, though. I'd therefore put it this way - if you're missing either of them, you're in deep trouble.
