I couldn't answer this poll with one number. To use the Political Compass axes, I'm about a 5.5 (almost bang on the middle) economically, and about a 4 in terms of authoritarian/libertarian."The French caused the war [Persian Gulf war, 1991]" - Ned
"you people who bash Bush have no appreciation for one of the great presidents in our history." - Ned

Uhm...democrats and republicans are both very much to the right...in fact, democrats are more to the right than the "rightest" party in sweden, moderaterna...Except you can have extremely religious democrats. You can also have libertarian democrats and republicans.
I don't think they´re opposites at all...fascists think the strongest should rule...which is what happens in an anarchy....And how are both anarchy and fascism on the far right? If anything they're extreme opposites.
fiscally vs socially means the same thing...high taxes gives the government resources, which gives power....And what about fiscally vs. socially? ie, someone who is fiscally conservative and socially liberal - where would they fit? Or someone who is fiscally liberal and socially conservative?
And still...democrats are to the right...
should have mentioned that in the first post...I'll do it now....(Never mind that a 6 in the US isn't going to be the same thing as a 6 in Europe)
sorry, haven't seen one beforeHow many times does the same sort of poll need to be posted?
And ever after, sun shone upon the land of Sunshinia...

Actually, all things considered, I'd say Republicans in general are for bigger government than Democrats. But the size of the government one supports is a silly way to categorize left and right. But I thought Democrats were for bigger government"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. But anarchism is not on the right.
I do not associate with anarchists.

So you can't be religious and to the left? Or non-religious and to the right?Originally posted by Thirgaral
Uhm...democrats and republicans are both very much to the right...in fact, democrats are more to the right than the "rightest" party in sweden, moderaterna...
Fascists believe in a strong and powerful central authority with complete control of the country. Anarchy believes in no central authority (or a very weak one).I don't think they´re opposites at all...fascists think the strongest should rule...which is what happens in an anarchy....
I don't see how these are simmilar at all.
No they don't mean the same thing. You can believe that that the government should have a very socially liberal policy (pro-choice, pro-civil liberties, pro-affirmative action, etc), while also believing that the government should keep taxes low, keeping the marketplace relatively free and open and not spend money on programs like social security and welfare, etc.fiscally vs socially means the same thing...high taxes gives the government resources, which gives power....
Simmilarly, you could be very much to the right on policies (pro-life, anti-aff action, anti gun control, etc) and still want the government to tax and spend on things like religious charities, military, etc."I read a book twice as fast as anybody else. Anarchism doesn't necessarily mean the lack of government, although there are some anarchists that do believe that. Rather, it's the idea that authority should be minimized, public and private. Basically, it's libertarian socialism.AFAIK, it's when there's no government ruling"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before.
