Fox channel has caused CNN to move more towards the right. I think they were a little left before, but they can't get away with that, now that they don't have a quasimonopoly. There are two aspects to the the thing: the stance of the reporters/commentators (what bias you see slip through), and also the choice of opinion program comentators (Bill Orielly, et al.). I don't think you can fault Brit Hume or the news producers/writers for the second issue.

Mixed in with that is the issue of making the news entertaining and of mixing non-news stuff in. (Larry King interviews on CNN and Bill Oreily on Fox.) So there is a news vs commentary vs entertainment decision going on as well as the political placement.

Anyway, I think it's good to have competition. Fox makes CNN work hard and vise versa.

You should go to Indymedia, commie. They have some good WW2 coverage.

I know there's some that don't agree with me but reading a thread like this makes me love public service TV.

FOX would only be centrist if Hitler was on the right and Limbaugh on the left.
To us, it is the BEAST.

It's funny how much more factual news gets when you don't have to sell commercial time.

Isn't the Sun or the Daily Mail the most popular British paper? What astounds me is that Fox doesn't have Page 3 girls and still manages to be winning the ratings.

NPR is slanted left. Plus it tries to act intellectual, but is really silly instead. Oh...and they talk with a limp-wristed accent.

Objective sources tend to seem slanted when compared against such trash as FOX.

I like watching FOX news, I find a lot of their stuff entertaining. They did have some of the best reports from the battle field with their reporters traveling with the troops. The one thing I hated was the retired generals and other talking heads giving their opions on the war, when I think they had no idea what they are saying and they use the stupid looking graphics on their maps.

Every news sorce has bias, but I think what most people dont realize is that most of the stuff that is on the News Cable Channels is commentators giving their opions and interviewing guests, so you can see their bias fully. You can get news from CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. I mean if one slips up the others will be all over them running stories on how wrong they were.

I prefer getting my news from the newspapers, raw news wires (AP, Knight Ridder, Reuters, et al.) and maybe the occasional Web site.

That said, I find FOX to be aggravating. This is a network that makes a point of *preaching* just how "fair and balanced" they are, which instantly raises warning flags. This is a network that goes on and on about how they "report and you decide," and then go on to have nothing but opinionated talk shows where pushing buttons (i.e., being anything but fair and balanced) is the norm because, gosh sakes, ratings mean more than journalism. Finally, this is a network that is so notoriously thin-skinned that if an outside group or person criticizes it, said group or person can expect to be skinned alive (and that's putting it mildly) by Bill O'Reilly and his fellows.

Sorry, but I'm sticking with newspapers and wire services as my primary news sources. FOX has made cable TV news mostly unpalatable.
