Hm, ok, after downloading the mod and modswapper with some hassle (seem to get Internal Server Errors in the evenings all the time), I unzipped them as required. However, when I want to set up the Modswapper it halts the installation, informing me that I have the wrong version of the Runtime DLL. I suspect it has something to do with Windows ME, providing supposedly better versions. As the installation routine doesn't say which runtime DLL has the wrong version, I will do the following, and please correct me if I am wrong:
- backup the ctp2data directory
- unzip the mods
- remove the "APOL"-prefix from them
- copy them over the orginal gamefiles
Frankly, I could return to Civ3 instead, but I like STP2 and Alpha Centauri a whole lot better.
[EDIT]: Never mind. I took a closer look and realized all I have to do is backup the gamefile.txt and rename the APOL_gamefile.txt to gamefile.txt . Stoopeed me!Last edited by Sytass; December 1, 2001, 04:18.Attrition is not a strategy. Attrition is the apparent lack of strategy. - Sun Tzu

Indeed, the above file doesn't seem to exist.
Anyway, to explain what I'm on about, I'm trying to use the Apolyton pack. I've followed the instructions as to how to install it:
0. I uninstalled CTP2
1. I reinstalled it
2. I installed the CTP2 1.11 patch
3. I ran the game briefly, creating user-wotsit.txt
4. I edited said file so debugslic=No
5. I installed modswapper
6. I installed pack 1.01 (one file only, unpacked and placed in the top-level folder of the game installation)
7. I installed pack 1.02 (replacing the relevant files in the folder of the same name - i.e., merging with the existing folder)
8. I ran the game, and as the loading bar appears, I get:
"APOLUL_const.txt not found in asset tree"
I press OK, then:
"Could not open APOL_const.txt"
I press OK, then the game crashes and windows tells me it is closing it.
Any ideas? I'm using Windows Me.
I have the same problem. Those files do not exist in the zip files, even though they are listed as being changed. I don't know what other zip file or Mod should have been included in the instructions, but those files don't exist and they apparently should (see changes.txt in the 1.02 zip file). BTW I'm running Win 98 SE, but that's really irrelevant. Time to purchase Civ 3? I hate Activision. There is no reason why end-users should have to be trying to fix their game. Oh well. Salud,
Mark

I looked for the 4 meg version you mentioned, and think that this may be the correct URL?: "http://www.apolyton.net/ctp2/files/Mods/"
However, every time I try to download the 4156 KB Apolyton Mod by Dale, I get server errors on either Netscape 4.79 or IE 5.5 SP2.
LMK if I'm on the right track here,
Thanks,

Yeah....on my hard drive
but more seriously i just downloaded everything from the 'Files' section of CTP2....but that was a month ago....and what with the slight confusion of different size files it was a bit of a hassle.good luck'The very basis of the liberal idea – the belief of individual freedom is what causes the chaos' - William Kristol, son of the founder of neo-conservitivism, talking about neo-con ideology and its agenda for you.info here. prove me wrong.

As I tested the database last time I got a version 1.01 file, too. I think Markos never updated the database about that maybe you find an announcement from Marcos in this thread. But fortunatly I have it on my harddrive. Here is it:
