      Turn 72 --> Sophanthro

      The Assyrian Foreign Service has come across some disturbing rumours.

      It has been reported that some sort of trouble has broken out between Egypt and Rome. No details are yet forthcoming, but what little that has been learned is troubling.

      Also, a proposal for a peace treaty with the Incans has reached our shores. But other recent developments make this offer suspect, and we cannot take it seriously.

      On these and other matters, we will have to wait for more concrete information before coming to a final opinion.

        Turn 73 ==> Demos
        News from Cairo.

        Well, Well the true colors are all to apparent. So we planned a cheap victory over Caligula, Bull ****! The PARIA council was a necessary defense mechanism. Rome had grown incredibly strong and Cairo feared that at any whim Rome could roll over any one of our civs if we did not bind together in a mutual defense alliance. Egypt clearly stated during the conference that if Rome did not act agressively, we would not attack Rome. We had already stated our intentions clearly on this Forum.

        This alliance was in many ways designed to protect the very nation, who has instigated the violence against our beloved nation of Egypt, namely the hated Incans. In fact Egypt delivered two techs to them, Mass Production, Oil Refining so that they could protect thier pathetic dung pile of a nation. We have unfortunately learned too late that technology should never fall into the hands of a lesser peoples. If those dogs can ever be called people.

        With that being said, Egypt begs forgiveness for her erroring ways. We hope that Rome feels compensated by the acquisition of two of Egypt's prize cities Giza and Busiris or was it Bubastis. As Caligula well knows or should know from taking those cities that Egypt was not planning an assault, or the cities would no doubt have more adequate defenses. We entreat Rome to forgive our errors.

        May the Bastardly High Priest burn in hell.
        Sophix, Currently Pharaoh of Egypt.

            Noble Lords,

            In view of the geo-political situation it did not take Sherlock Holmes to work out the most likely, especially when I had threatened to take this very course of action, culprit for revealing to Rome the details of the 'PARIA' accord. Indeed, it was my understanding that all were to have been furnished with copies of recent communiques between myself and 'El Duce'. If you have not been then I will gladly provide you with the hard copy evidence but I think an open admittance of guilt should suffice.

            If anyone is expecting an apology then I am afraid that they will be disappointed. I did what I felt to be neccessary and in similar circumstances would do so again.

            Before too many 'high horses' are mounted though I would remind you that Inca duplicity and covert understandings are far from the only ones in this World of ours. The only thing which marks out mine is the lack of concern as to it's ultimate disclosure as it is pointless to attempt to keep secret that which will become apparent through actions rather than words. You need only but scratch the surface to find evidence of lies and deceit, promises made with no intent of honouring them and attempts to 'play both ends against the middle'.

            Is it not the case that whilst instigating the entire 'PARIA' conspiracy Egypt was in a state of formal Alliance with Rome? Would someone care to explain why Rome is finding 'Citizen Edison' so especially productive recently? Why was Rome so 'genuinely' surprised at Assyrian complicity in an Alliance against her? Why was Assyria advocating an entirely different policy direction to the Inca whilst taking part in a Global Summit to discuss the means of bringing about Rome's downfall in 'cooperation' with Egypt? All these and many other questions remain unanswered.

            A cold hard World is no place for altruism or selfless endeavour. We all have our own
            interests but be honest enough to admit that the only one that really counts is 'Self-Interest'. I offer no apologies nor make any plea for forgiveness. I expected to be reviled for my actions but I do beg that none should stoop to sanctimony.

            High Priest Jon, Lord of the Loathed.

                Official Statement Of Cairo

                Cairo and Rome had never been in an official state of alliance, it is true that years ago we had worked together with our science but such coordination had ended years ago, long before we had declared a defensive pact intending to help Inca. High Priest Jon your lies do you no good.

                    Great Pharoah,

                    I will honour your entreaties if you honour these conditions...

                    1) A gift of Steel

                    2) That you cede the city of Hawera to Rome

                    3) That unsettled territory E of Oryx is open to Roman colonisation

                    4) That NO UNITS enter any of my territory - specifically WITHIN CITY LIMITS...

                    Failure to adhere to these conditions will result in the resumption of my operations against you!

                    AVE CALIGULA!

                          Turn 74 ==> Jon

                          It would appear that after acquiring Egyptian knowledge, the Incans have found a lust for expanding their minds. Reports filter in of scientific acquisitions from the Romans aswell.

                          It would appear that the Incans are doing very well from this upheaval.

                            Turn 74 to Mobius.

                            The citizens of Cuzco celebrated in the streets as news emerged of the signing of a formal Alliance with our esteemed Roman neighbours.

                            Inca professors were working long into the night studying the wonderous new Technologies furnished us by the learned men of Rome.

                            Speaking from the Temple in Cuzco, High Priest Jon declared, 'Here we see the reward for the upholding of the Inca principals of Honour, Truth and Integrity. We could have allowed ourselves to have been bullied by three major powers, one of whom even stooped to the use of brute force, into taking part in a shabby and underhand plot but we stood firm by our beliefs and now you, my people, have Movie Theatres to entertain you! Whatever World opinion may say we did the right thing and though honesty is it's own reward it sometimes brings bonuses'.

                              Cairo has accepted the Roman peace treaty. And will leave Hawara, next turn as well as forward steel to the fascists.

                                The Imperator is satisfied that the peace conditions are now met...

                                Unfortunately we have to report that several cavalry formations entered Hawara as a spontaneous protest at being called 'Fascists'... We are Romans, in the same way that you are Egyptians and not 'Theocrats'... It has been noted that these same cavalry formations discovered the secret of Steel for their pains.

                                As for the settlement E of Oryx, Roman intelligence shows the existence of a trade route terminus nearby and assumes that to be the location of this city. Roman colonisation will be limited to E of that area...

                                Rome has pleasure in formalising the Alliance with the Incas, true beacons of light in a World clouded by darkness!
