    Turn 66 ---> Sophanthro

    Noble Demosthenes:

Our ship reaches Denbigh next turn. Already we hear word from the lookout in the crow's nest of tropical lands rich with coconut palms and sugar plantations.

Our Diplomat has laid out his finest suit for his meetings witht the people of Wales.

Back in Assyria, our factories have greatly increased the standard of living for our people. Perhaps this is why we again enjoy an absence of rioting (ah, if only it were that rational).

            Another turn without riots!!!

Whilst wandering the halls of Augustudunum university the Imperator has stumbled a text of great power entitled 'Mein Kampf', truly worthy of bedside reading...

Tonight we celebrate with our friend Demosthenes under the palms of Denbigh, and in the morning, we build a beautiful Embassy!

The Emperor is reading Mein Kampf? We can only hope we don't begin to hear the odd bit of Wagner wafting across the estuary that separates us!

Almost forgot to mention..no riots here too!

Egypt founded it's 30th city today, the citizens at first wnated to call it Cairo1, but quickly decided that Sophara was a far more apt name in honor of all of the Pharaoh's achievements.

                    Great Pharoah,

I notice a lone warrior heading towards the gates of Genua and must ask my friend his intentions as we had agreed that this area was to be my furthest westerly expansion...?

I also must advise that your diplomatic attache to Rome has mysteriously disappeared in the vicinity of Antium. Whilst he is welcome within our borders, we would like to keep track of his whereabouts as we cannot guarantee his safety beyond city limits due to the recent instances of barbarian activity...

                        The Giza Report

                        Fascism Rising in Rome
Unconfirmed reports out of Rome hint that a Xenophobic groups of zealots is rising in power, as of this press release their names are unknown. What is known is that the Roman empire has fallen into a state of disarray. Egyptian Minister of Defence, Ra Manora said that they are keeping a close eye on their powerful neighbor Rome, and that although they have good relations with the former government in Rome, it is doubted that a fascist government will find a friend in Cairo.

The 1st Gizan infantry pulls back to thier border position
The Pharaoh apoligizes to Emperor Caligula for his slight intrusion into Roman soil, the infantry's Corporal had been drinking excessively and thought it might be fun to visit Roman soil, he has since been replaced. The Pharaoh further stated that the Egyptian government has nothing but respect for the Roman Theocracy.

                        Egyptian Diplomatic movement explained
The diplomat who Emperor Caligula asked about has simply gone exploring to the north, we apoligize for his actions and didn't realize it would upset the priests of Rome, and thank Rome for it concern

Tales reach the ears of the Welsh people, tales of Caligula and his dabblings with National Socialism.

What a strange thing to do for one so wise. Caligula, cease from this path, for the Fascist state is an expansionist state, dependent upon it's war machine for legitimacy.

A warlike government, with a war-ready military, is something that should worry us all.

Caligula, we demand that you state your intentions. For many years your incursions against the Incans have been tolerated, their extermination will not.

                            Turn 69 to Mobius.

I would caution the Roman people of the dangers of Fascism. The Dictator Mussolini brought down nothing but suffering and death upon his people with this evil creed.

I was delighted to sign a formal Treaty of Alliance with my Welsh friends. A small agrarian nation such as mine needs the friendship of a mighty nation like Wales under it's honest and trustworthy leader Demosthenes. It is sad but we find that such qualities are rare indeed in an extremely unfriendly World.

                            High Priest Jon.

Well well well, three communications ripe with veiled implications - all because I have reached my growth potential for government run by the church?

I wish to embrace the prospect of greater scientific achievement, greater production and for my nation's trains to run on time...

Could it be the jealousy of covetousness nations which raises this spectre of armed conflict...?

Rome has no territorial ambitions as her ending of the conflict with the Incas should attestify. Rome merely wishes not to be caught by surprise by any nations wishing her ill and would not be foolish enough to presume any aggressive act by her would not go unpunished...

Rome therefore notes that although it seems unacceptable for herself to have battle ready troops, it seems acceptable for her friend(?)and neighbour to do so - does this not indeed smack of double standards?

Or that the Welsh appear to be on alert from an imaginary foe - unless there has been a falling out between Cardiff and Cairo, in which case Rome offers her expertise in diplomatic relations...

Rome also welcomes the fact that the backward nation of Inca has been bestowed with the advances of Oil Refining and Mass Production. But in the same token why do her neighbours opt for Battleships, Troopships, Marines, Submarines and Destroyers while depriving their populations of Electricity, Advanced Mines and Movie Palaces...?

Furthermore Rome gains solace from the fact that the Incans have also signed an Alliance with the Welsh - truly a noble gesture in the pursuit of greater regional security...!

Lastly, the Imperator is glad that other nations have so much time for Rome's affairs - but he asks you not to worry as Caligula does have the best interest of Rome at heart and will not be doing anything to upset this delicate balance - your concern is however, duly noted...

Great Pharoah - no disrespect was intended regarding your Diplomat, quite the opposite... If you feel he is safe to visit the Roman hinterland, then so be it. At times of peace Diplomats are free to travel the roads and railways of the Empire wherever they wish...

Caligula also appreciates the resolution of our border misunderstanding - thanks to the Pharoah for his magnanimity...

                                Turn 69 ---> Sophanthro

There is much sadness in Assyria tonight, for we have been betrayed. For what have we discovered but that one who spoke of peace and trust has snuck into the very heartland of our nation and built a city directly next to the Assyrian city of Simmurrum.

Jon, we are shocked that you would commit such a deed. This explains your recent refusal of our offer to exchange maps with you. You were already undertaking your silent invasion.

You cannot make the excuse that you did not know this was settled Assyrian territory because you had no maps, as even a casual glance would have shown you that right next to the land you seized was a blue trade line going into what you had to know was a city.

This is not a case of moving a settler up against our border, but was a calculated Invasion over Water by Ship onto a Separate Continent from Inca: the Assyrian continent.

This is an illegal incursion, and as such, the city of Lauricocha has been confiscated.

However, Jon, although it would be within our rights, we do not make war with you. We are willing to accept this act as a foolish mistake, and make peace with the Incan people. With this in mind, we have sent you an offer of a peace treaty, and another offer of a map exchange with the hope that this kind of thing never happens again. We should note that you did offer us a map exchange this very turn, but we did not have a chance to open it, so shocked were we to discover the incursion.

And let no nation misjudge this incident. Assyria does not wish to see the Incan nation
subject to any assault by any other nation who might wish to take advantage of this momentary confusion. Assyria still wishes to be friends with the Incan people, and will not tolerate any attempt by others to punish them over this matter.

                                King Rick the Disillusioned
