It's really a mod, but I didn't want to call it the Mars Mod since that would be too similar to the MedMod. I have considered Mars Pack. Mostly I called it a scenario because it goes in the scenarios directory.
I'm running it on a P166/32MB so it can't be too bad for you. It starts on the ground just like normal CTP, but you can reach space more quickly (as a fraction of game length), so that there is plenty of time to do stuff in space before the X-lab. Actually, there is one variation in which you start in space, with one space city, and must colonize the land from there, but that's not necessary.
There is new graphics, but only for units, not terrain or cities. I intend to change that other kind of graphics at some point, but I wanted to test other things first. The unit graphics had to be updated to prevent many units having the same picture. There is also some new graphics in the great library, quite a lot of which came from the MedMod.
If you want a more detailed explanation of the changes you'll just have to download it (or at least Mars_text.zip) and check the readme, which is fairly extensive.
