Personnaly I don't bother about sex or age of my opposant.
This a just a trivial question.

Young or old, male or from the 'beau sexe', it's the same stuff for me. An opposant will not be better because he's male and old. For my, a good opposant is a dead opposant.

I don't think there are many games that attract such a wide and diverse Audience.....It was my Wife, Anna, who got me into playing this game... She had originally played CIV I in Russia.... She no longer plays (International Jetsetter most of the time ) but I never found the cure for the CIV bug....In fact my condition is worsening..... Anna is 24, and had been playing Civ since she was a Teenager, I was a late starter, having discovered CIV II about two - three years ago (I'm now 35)
