  • Love Conquers? Part V.

    Turn 83 to Madrid.

    My Holy Brother,

Why are there Military Units heading toward the main Lille-Tours Road? This is it not a move calculated to encourage trust and neighbourly love.

It is with deep sadness that we note that Greece too has gone to War Readiness. A sad day indeed when War consumes the entire World with only France as an island of Peace.

    Yours in Sadness,
    St Jon, Kindness amidst Cruelty.

    Dear Brother St. Jon

Have no fear, these troops are merely the garrison of the newly founded border city of Reus...

As a gesture of goodwill, Spain happily cedes the two regions of overlapping territory to the neighbouring holy city of Tours...

Indeed, to further show our peaceful intentions to our pious neighbours we have renewed our peace treaty with France. Remember also that we happily entrust on of our trade routes to the ever vigilant denizens of Tours.

Spain shares the sadness of St. Jon that Greece too has gone to War Readiness and hopes that this is merely a temporary precaution.

            Turn 83 ---> Quinns

Greece must formally demand that Spanish musketeers stay out of our territory. Tomas de Torquemada, if we are to remain good neighbours, the unit currently within the city limits of Rhodes must leave immediately! Perhaps they are lost. If so, we will be happy to escort them to our border (although they do not seem to understand the meaning of the word).

Much good cheer in Athens follows the signing of a peace treaty with our fiends in Paris. But St Jon, we must broach a delicate subject. You profess to be peaceful, yet like the Spaniards, you keep military units on Greek soil. We have tried to be patient, as they are of lowly rank, but our patience is wearing thin. Please order the pikeman stationed northeast of Pauillac to leave our city radius where he has been hunkered down for many years now! He should travel toward Vernon if he is to leave Greek lands.

Likewise, we must insist that the Phalanx lounging in Greek mountains leave by moving away from our diamond mine, and return to his beloved homeland! Surely he must miss your fine French wine! I'm sure you will agree, St Jon, even if n'er a drop has ever passed your own saintly lips!

Oops, sorry about that. It should have read "...our friends in Paris"!

It wasn't intentional, although we are quite relieved that Freud hasn't been born yet.

                    Turn 84 to Madrid.

                    Beloved Xenophon,

I was unaware that any French troops were inside Greek territory as they have been holding their stations for many years without query. In the interests of peace, ever my prime concern they have moved West and I trust that this will relieve any angst upon your part.

The mystery Riots continue, after a brief lull, to plague France. Without a single City in danger of Riot we nevertheless suffered five including one which may well cost the City itself!

                      Calm down dear Xenophon...

The Musketeer is merely part of SOS (Spanish Ordinance Survey), given the troubles in the past you've had with Barbarians - The Grand Inquisition felt that an armoured unit would fare better on our borders...

This unit has been withdraw and been reprimanded for straying so close to the fair city of Rhodes...

                      St. Jon,

Spain hopes that these spontaneous riots cease with haste from your cities - we are all too familiar with their illogical effects!

                      Breaker Morant,

The new city of Emu Plains, built on the bleached bones of murdered Spanish refugees will be destroyed brick by evil brick unless it is immediately vacated!!!

Even now, a powerful expeditionary force approaches to retake our ancestral lands - by terrible force if necessary!

'There is only one crime I am guilty of... Being too merciful!'

                        Just a wee reminder...

That last turn took five days which is far too long...!

I will be invoking the 24 hour rule from now on in an effort to speed things up.

The 24hr was in place from the start in LC so please, all of you, enforce it in the instance of anybody's unexplained disappearence.

Please would any Player who faces difficulty in meeting the deadline either post to give warning, appoint a Sub or resign.

This was never intended to be a 'Fast', Turn a day, Game but six Players should easily be able to average less than 48hrs. Anything beyond that simply becomes boring for everyone else and will kill the Game.

                            Demos, shift your backside!

                            Jon, Your ever loving Saint.

Maybe we could all institute a substitute buddy system, where each of us has a substitute we can call on at a moment's notice…?

For example, Lung and I have a reciprocal agreement where we can instantly sub for the other person without having to go asking around and setting it up. In theory it works - when the Birdman remembers to send me the turns that is…

Can we do that? I've been impressed in the way that the CtP forum has become a real community lately, and this would help to strengthen it further IMO…

BTW I don't mind doing that in other games I'm not involved in if anyone needs a sub...
