EDIT: oh, stupid me, I have renumbered the turns , so it's actually 1 turn later for LibraryLast edited by binTravkin; June 25, 2007, 03:39.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

I think we might have trouble researching fast enough. Next turn we will be forced to cut down research %. Maybe to 70% or 80%. We are running -8 gold now (mainly due to units). And we lose the commerce from banana.
I tested putting research down to 90% before we dowed banana and it broke even, so we should have no problems running 90% for some 3-4 turns until the first loot comes in.
That single turn with +1 will also give us +3 beakers from engineer, if that helps in any way.
If we don't seem as managing it on time, we could delay GL by one turn, which is risky, or put something (some building) in between GL and Library.
EDIT: oh, we should be managing on time - our 4th city will give us ~5 of additional commerce once settled.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

We're planning to continue building chukos at Tassagrad (and Xian too, if no more missionaries needed) until the Banana defeat is apparent, after that those cities should build some other stuff (workers, settlers, more missionaries, odd infra).
Currently it looks like our military is enough for the task.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

I offer to build 2 settlers asap (I guess in Xian + Tassa after current military and missionary builds are done) - settled as coastal cities (one east Beijing - the rice site and one west - just south of proposed west city site to have clam in fat x) they will be 0 balance (1 distance maintenance, 4 city count maintenance balanced with 1 city tile gold and 4 trade route gold) from the very start, later providing a powerful balancing effect for our upkeep and adding great sums to our GNP.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

We might want to split production between Worker depending on how many Banana workers can be captured, they CAN disband their own units simply to keep us from capturing them so we can not count on getting any beyond the lucky Settler capture.
Thous new cities of theirs are likely going to need considerable buildings and improvments after capture, Forges, Granaries and Libraries at the least to bring them up to high productivity. Chopping will help immensely with with and we will want atleast 2 workers out in the 'Banana Provinces' full time.
We also need to begin making more Cottages throughout all our territories to catch up with Storm on Commerce. All in all we will want atleast an additional two workers in the near term. I would recommend Tass and Xian produce in pairs, 2 missionaries, 2 workers and 2 Settlers in that order.Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

I'd say a worker being produced at the same time in one of the cities and settler in the other.
Settlers settling coastal cities will need very little improvements, usually not more than two distinct improvements, probably a chop and road.
On the cottage/commerce/keeping up with GS subject:
We were planning to do that using sea commerce.
Where there are rivers, we can use cottages by the river, e.g. a fresh cottage near Beijing would be 2-0-3 and 2-0-4 only few turns later.
I agree we'll need a lot of workers east there, but I'm hoping for at least some captured and if not, those places can build some themselves. Besides, we should be able to divert two of the current workers east by the time they're needed.
Libraries are not immediately needed, but provided Forges, Granaries and Courthouses are built and there's a good amount of commerce in that city, we should build them too.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

That will be hard due to lack of food, at least in Xian (Tassagrad if a farm or too are built could manage though), I guess we then need to quickly build Granaries there.
We were planning to spread irrigation to the Xian area, but that's only possible with CS.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

And here's template, if you want to play with the placement of that eastern city.
I admit it's unoptimal as I put it, but it's pretty cumbersome from any viewpoint.
I think another location for it could be just west of the river, where it could work one of those wines and probably one incense too.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.
