      • they reall need to add coordinates back to the game

        I like the safan city placement above, although what i would do: 1st city between paper\rice, as marked.....a 2nd city on(literally) the pair of wine, the one closest to banana and finnaly a 3rd city on the wine near banana bay, as marked. Further north a 4th city possibly in the marble\deer\iron area. I would consider just picking up marble via cultural borders.(when will this happen?)

        BTW On thursday i will be able to post a pic and finaly load the sav here and look into this in more detail.

        Does anyone have firm numbers on number of city maintainance costs?

        • I strongly advocate that clam city if we can build it without losing other more important sites due to maintaince costs.

          • Here's another attempt to balance them somewhat.
            We lose a few commerce tiles at the currently planned rice city site, but gain a good grid in Banana territory and don't need to kill Banana 3rd.

              There's a spreadsheet in the Great Library thread, at the last post.

              • Oh, in the above plan the Banana 3rd is a bit too much north

                That doesn't change much, though

                • Does the spreadsheet actually calculate numbers or show the numbers as-they-would-be? Im looking at it now and

                  Lets not put a city in just for a single rice
                  That rice city would steal tiles and resources from the main cities down there
                  If we do put a city for the rice, a few tiles north?

                  • kat, you need to put in one row for each city. Fill in coordinates respective to our capital, fill in the population, set it to being used. Basicly all cells without a formula have to be filled in. The result is shown completely at the right side.

                    • Do remember that those numbers don't take inflation into account, so it will eventually be slightly higher.

                        • It's not that sub-optimal (hill between rice and silk)

                          Do remember that it will take a lot of time for both that city and Xian to get to size 20, and even then Xian will not be able to use all the plains hills in its radius until we get biology.

                          The new city has rice to grow, lots of coast (and eventually silk) for commerce, and has a couple of forest tiles and plains hills it can share with xian for when it needs production.

                          • You're right, the initial rice plan is better because city gets to work more 2-x-x tiles.

                            • Clam city A
                              8 coast, 2 ocean = 8 * 4 + 2 * 3 = 38
                              5 cottages = 5*(3-5) = 15-25
                              windmill = 1

                              food surplus +5 with lighthouse
                              commerce 55-65 total
                              raw hammers = 9 total = 13 for infra builds

                              Clam city B
                              5-6 coast, 3 ocean = (5-6) * 4 + 3 * 3 = (20-24) + 9 = 29 - 33
                              wine = 4
                              2 cottages = 2*(3-5) = 6-10

                              food suplus +5 with lighthouse
                              commerce = 40-48
                              raw hammers = 5 total (with mine on the hill) = 7 for infra builds
                              Original clam plan is also better than the new one (to put it between clam and wine on the southern part of continent), due to ~30% more available commerce and almost double the available hammers (which is only gonna grow when we switch to universal suffrage)
