    • Fortunately, someone else has discovered masonary and polytheism, so we gets some beakers from the ether

      • For example, at 100% science we can get masonary in 3 turns...we aren't packing 38 beakers per turn though.

        • I am confusing myself! I have gone back-and-forth a couple of times on whether the order matters, and it appears that it does.

If we do Masonry first and complete on 1000BC, we then select Polytheism - and if we have enough overflow to actually complete Polytheism, we still won't get it until the next turn.

If we do Polytheism first, then the overflow goes right into Masonry, and if we happen to find/get one extra beaker somewhere, then Masonry could complete on 1000BC.

Masonry shows 4 turns for me at 100%.

            • Turn 72 @ 90%, turn 1 of masonary
              Turn 73 @ 100% turn 2 of masonary
              Turn 74 @ 90% turn 1 of polytheism
Turn 75 @ 100% turn 3 of masonary + overflow, polytheism researched, send to AC accepted if they have alphabet
Turn 76 @ 90% restart on maths, 4-5 turns eta, masonary complete. Send masonary to AC accepted, recieve IW from AC accepted if

Tech trades are just what would be ideal for us to get IW asap (send polytheism on faith, they reply with IW on faith then we finish with masonary the turn it is researched).

              • Basically just open the latest save adn set the work force as set in the Turn 71 turn thread, and change research to Masonary. It says we get masonary in 3 turns.

                • And if we needed more gold...Next turn move workerii 4 and cottage. On turn 73 move workerii 4 against and cottage so we get that cottage a turn sooner, then the workers can move 6 on turn 74 and cottage, so that cottage will be complete on turn 75.

Ah, thank you, the bolded part was what I was missing.

Okay, so given the apparent discount for Masonry, we will be able to finish both by 1000Bc (turn 76). What I don't understand is why we should switch twice - the same can be accomplished by just doing Polytheism first starting next turn and then doing Masonry.

                      • Basically only reason is that if someone is doing the same thing as us, researching polytheism and masonary while going for monotheism, we are not giving them the chance to get any beakers from the ether until the last possible moment. Other than that, there isn't a reason.

                        • RELIGIONS (and why they are good):

Please remember the reason we are invading Vox. Because we did not want their religion spreading to us!

Basically there are two ways to prevent other peoples religions spreading to you.
                          1) Exterminate the owner of the religion.
                          2) Have your own religion and spread it around to prevent passive spread of other religions.

Now from our perspective, which strategy would we rather AC employ to keep out hinduism? Take your time...

Not to say that AC could exterminate us, but there's no need to have the tension of a situation with unbalanced city visibility. And if we both have religion and both have a holy city then we may be more amendable to allowing the others religion to be selectively allowed in (for happiness reasons).

So basically I say we should indeed whole heartily support AC in their efforts to found Judaism.

                          Here's the deal:
Overflow BAAAAD. Overflow is not boosted by tech discounts, so wherever possible we should avoid overflow, including tweaking the slider to convert the overflow into gold which we then spend on the next tech.

Now whether or not to micro away the overflow depends largely on whether that gold can be completely converted into research before the next tech completes. I think our expenses are high enough to make that possible.

                            Aha! Wow - that's really cut-throat!

Do we want to do this: a) in this circumstance; and b) as a general rule?

That depends entirely on how quickly we need to get the techs. If we can't get masonary in 3 turns (and I'm not sure about that, I think we can just squek by and get it in 3 turns without use of overflow) then we should use the overflow from polytheism on masonary because that helps out AC and we can ask them to trade IW to us sooner.

In this circumstance only if need to to get polytheism and masonary in 4 turns. Otherwise do whatever gets the most beakers for us, I think. As for in general...well, on that I ain't sure, because we normally want a tech asap so that we can use the advantages it gives us.

PS. I'm not half as cutthroat as most used to be on GS.
