  • I'm afraid that mutually profitable trade routes for open borders income requires both teams to have completely visible routes to cultural borders. A partial connection allows for trading resources, but that's not useful.

Of course either team with the full visible route gets the trade income - it's just not mutually profitable.

We may not want to tell them this if we can easily finish the scouting, we would then open borders and be the only ones getting trade commerce. We probably may as well maintain Plausible deniability if we will be the ones to profit .

Last time we talked, you told us you'd come back as soon as you have
an offer for trade. We understand you must be having your own reasons
for delays, like wild animals and naughty voxians killing your envoys,
so we have decided to step up with a proposal of our own in hopes it
won't get lost on the way, somewhere in the equatorial jungle.

Seeing how you have just discovered the secrets of Monarchy(429b), we
would like to propose an exchange of Sailing(143b) and
Literature(286b) for it. The costs of respective technologies match
beaker to beaker and the benefits, neither being exceptional, are
          still good and fair enough.
We, being always thirsty for more happiness, plan to build winery,
following this deal, while you could open up trade routes and build a
          national wonder or two.

On a related note, have you been taking any steps to explore the trade
route? We are eager to open commerce between our nations to
collectively try and keep ahead of any rivals there might be.

Also, we've heard rumors of GS amassing large armies. That must be for
the doom of Vox which now might be as sure and swift as that of
Bananas. We're looking forward to time advancing much quicker in the
          future (turn times).

          Hoping for smooth negotiation,
          Your friends @AC

          • Hmmm sailing and literature.

That sounds... fair enough I guess.
I was going to say they'd be getting more in the short run - but no - they have Pyramids. So I think it's an acceptable trade.

Literature doesn't help us hugely for now, but it will later, especially once we get the marble and can build HE/NE.

Although what is the full list of visible techs AC has?

This Team AC calling! We figured out there has been so long silence between our teams, we could go for a chance and set up a little chat. It has been some time we had any of those and I remember them being quite easy and useful way of doing diplomacy.
We've sent you a diplo message earlier, perhaps in a chat things could be easier to discuss.

                best,
                bT from Team AC
                Hi bT,

I have resisted practically all attempts to get involved in diplomacy on top of being turnplayer. Unfortunately it's meant that we effectively have no diplomacy.

I apologize for that, but at the moment it doesn't look like it's going to change. I do diligently posted all official diplomacy emails in the appropriate threads, and people even comment on them, but no one is taking responsibility to respond.

Since I am taking a moment to let you know this, I'll give you a general update: AC remains an ally in our eyes; tech trades are looked on favourably (if they could ever get sorted out); and finally, in case you've noticed Open Borders between us and 'Nana - that was simply to get our lonely warrior SpineBreaker back to our lands. I didn't even ask them about it - I just requested the agreement in game with the unit on their borders, and they granted it.

I am actually trying to see if someone will take over as turnplayer, having served as such for 100 turns now, and with life-changes on the horizon will not have time soon.

                Best regards,
                HM

Thanks for taking time to answer!

We hope that diplomacy between AC and GS will resume as soon as possible and will be smoother than ever.
The reason why we are starting to grow restless with the poor state of diplomatic affairs (not meaning poor relationships, but lack of communication) is that the teams on the other continent are quite obviously cooperating.
We feel that without closer cooperation in tech plans both yours and our tech lead over opponents could be soon gone. That is especially alarming because both Sarantium and Mercs are Philoshophical civs and thus we only see half their research power now - once they start GPP farming for real, we might be in trouble.

If we go forward together we can cut through tech tree like a hot knife through butter.

in hope a person steps up to take GS diplomacy in his hands,

                    • It's time to resume negations with AC. Since no one else is doing diplomacy and HM nudged me in another thread, I've written a draft letter. Please give feedback.

                      --------------------------------------------------------------------
O mighty AC, conqueror of all things yellow and slippery, The Storm salutes you!

First, may we offer you our hearty congratulations on your efficient and ruthless subjugation of Team Banana.

Second, we thank you for your continued interest in tech trading with The Storm. Our statemen welcome AC's trade proposal of Literature and Sailing for Monarchy.

Third, we too share your concern about maintaining a tech lead over our opponents on the other continent. As such, we look forward to discussing further tech trades and building a cooperative plan for the research of new technologies. Below is a list of technologies that we have already acquired and our tentative plans for future research. If AC is willing to supply it, The Storm would be grateful for a similar list, so that both teams may resume fruitful negotiations.

We look forward to the day when the trumpets of war shall cease and our two nations together usher an era of peace and prosperity on this great continent.

With utmost respect and best wishes,
                      The Gathering Storm

                          • Received from our inbox, 5:41pm AEST, Oct 14:

                            Greetings our friends!

We're happy to see you back in the diplomatic arena and thank you for
your acceptance of the deal proposed by us.
We are also willing to cooperate closer in technological development
                            so here's a list:

                            AC techs currently researchable:
                            - HorseBack Riding
                            - Music
                            - Drama
                            - Calendar
                            - Construction
                            - CoL
                            - Feudalism
                            - Theology
                            - Compass

We've just done researching Currency and we could transfer it to you
right away in the hopes that it cuts a turn off your CoL research time
on a basis that you transfer CoL to us immediately after it's research
is finished. This exchange would be somehow resembling our much
earlier dealings around Monotheism and us getting a religion.

After that we'd be interested in Calendar as it would allow us to use
our newly acquired resources. Since you are researching CoL, we could
be doing Calendar now and once done exchanging it for your
                            Construction.
The next most important tech to us seem to be Civil Service.
We are 5 turns away from great person being born and there is 40%
chance (being the highest chance of all) that person will be Great
Merchant. With it we could almost-finish CS for an extra turn or two
                            of research.
We are not sure, therefore who of us should research CS, as if we
indeed get the merchant, and you have been researching CS for a couple
of turns, that investment would be wasted. Do you have any suggestions
                            in this matter?
At some point we'd want to also take Compass, but we recognize that as
of now it is of little value to you, so probably it won't participate
in cooperative tech plans so much.

Also, what are your plans after CoL?

                            • That's a good show of faith from AC. We should accept their offer of Currency.

We need to decide what to research after CoL. It would be good if we can do this ASAP so that we can show our serious intent in cooperating with AC. We don't want to muck them around at this stage.
