Woo for us:
Team Realms,
Sorry for the delay in responding. The previous lull in the game has me going through the motions for the time being! I should be back to normal shortly.....
I have decided to stay with Astronomy, and will have it in 6 turns. The Chemistry switch was just a thought I was having. I am just concerned with PAL's ability to pick up techs of this level in 3-5 turns, and want to stay even as best as I can (especially when it comes to naval techs that can kick my ass).
Thanks for the heads up on the Frigate/Galley upgrade mistake. Would you believe I have yet to play a complete game of Civ4 in any of its incarnations? I'll bet you can, since you have endured several email blunders of mine. Still, I have a strong enough background in Civ to figure most things out, and this game moves slowly enough for me to examine all possibilities.
Have you talked more with Imperio about their intentions toward PAL? I'm curious to see what they are up to.
Regards,
Donovan

That would be fairly patronising. Whenever I speak to Donovan he's always talking about PAL's military build-up. All of his cities have castles and he's just built the Chichen Itza. He was building the globe theatre and planning to go to nationhood when it is finished. He knows exactly what is in-store for him. His power isn't rising as rapidly as I'd hope though.

If Donovan is really worried about PAL's teching rate, there's a simple thing he can do to slow it down somewhat: Close Borders. It's funny how all of the teams claim to be worried about PAL's science, and yet no one aside from us (and Rabbits, but they don't really count!) has been willing to take the simple act of closing borders to deny trade route access... to the runaway civ that has the Great Lighthouse!
Well it may not be feasible for political reason to Banana, but we could at least suggest the idea.

Banana probably doesn't have any units with enough experience to build it.
We can offer them tactical advice, if they want it. We can also suggest a pre-emptive strike against PAL as soon as NAP expires. (If they send us screenshots of PAL's southern cities and list of their units, we can plan "Operation Banana Power" for them.)

Now we know why banana want chemistry: he has over 10 workshops.
Also from the chat he said PAL offered him a future trade of printing press for banking + some gold. I said be wary of giving them gold since they could use it to upgrade troops. He said not to worry, he'll turn it down because he has no need for printing press. I found that a slightly strange answer, since PP is a precursor for many good things.
What do we want to research after paper+education+optics? We need to get something to trade to banana for chemistry. If the GM is still available then economics would be nice.
