He didn't until he got Guns, at which point he could have upgraded a LB/CB

Have we all gone crazy? Why does he have to upgrade troops to see the defence of a city? The 40% he quoted isn't the odds that a musketman will win. It's the cultural defence - visible from the 2 border pops. He said for a musketman because for a non-gunpowder unit it is more due to the walls.

Actually no, they upgrade to Rifles (& x-bow to Gren), but iirc nothing upgrades to a Musket.

EDIT: and how easy is it really to tell that we're on the second border pop (actually soon to be third) since there are other borders clashing and our borders on two sides.

@sooooo; I don't think anyone else is mad, it's probably just me being paranoid.

Yeah the number of border pops are clear from the southern border of Cape Town.

I think we should drop Banana an email about:

            - Horses (do we still need them?),

            - The 1700 beakers he stitched us up for,

            - Peace with Imperio,

            - Tech plans.

            Any other stuff?

We should give them an estimate on Astronomy .

I was planning to send them an email after we found out if Imperio will give us gunpowder. Also that allows time for banana to send the email they promised.

If Imperio don't give us gunpowder, I was going to ask banana if they would write off banking as compensation (and we would write off drama).

Do we need horses? We could just build the forge at cape town then a mixture of cats and oromos until we get horses back on T164? I was going to concentrate on infrastructure/settlers in all cities except Cape Town and Green Acres (post-gunpowder)

Donovan said in his chat with me last turn that we could keep the horses. But obviously we want a better compensation than just keeping horses.

                      • Here we go:

                        Hello Donovan,

A few interesting turns it seems! Turn 143 was very bad for us and resulted in a deep depression across the Realms. But turn 144 brightened our mood a lot!

Let's start with the bad stuff ...

We don't believe you did it on purpose, but that trade with Imperio rather wrecked our plans. We had a chat session that day after the trades went through and there was widespread "glumness". A few of our team members chatted to you that day and we don't believe you screwed us on purpose. We can imagine being in negotiations with Imperio for a 3-way deal, and when Imperio offered one side of that deal you accepted. But nevertheless, screwed over we indeed were. We don't really want to stop your horses supply since we want you to defend yourselves and we do appreciate the iron you've given us. We don't want to punish you militarily for an economic issue. What we have decided to ask you for is if you would write off banking. We'd write off drama and we'll be even going forward for tech trades. We have to research gunpowder for ourselves and that's what we'll be doing right now. Would this work for you?

                        Now the good stuff!

You'll have noticed that on T154 we built the Taj Mahal (unlucky, PAL!). Even better, we have secured a peace deal with Imperio and have our trade routes back (this is a huge tech boost for us!). So we can keep up with you with teching in the future you'll be glad to hear. We heard you will be researching astronomy. We thought you'd appreciate the irony if we ask you "What's your eta for astronomy" . Ourselves, we plan to research gunpowder and paper. Probably if we get a great scientist we'll then lightbulb education and finish it off. Under those circumstances, would an astronomy-education trade suit? I doubt our etas for those techs would differ all that much.

In foreign news, our peace deal with Imperio involved not capturing Acre. They plan on turning on the Templars in the future, but you cannot cannot cannot tell them that we've told you this or our deal will be invalidated. They were rather angry even about the 3-way email that I sent. We agreed to not capturing Acre, but that doesn't stop you from doing it! There's also plenty of space for another banana city west of acre at the clams. So, does this interest you? Should you invoke the ire of Imperio, we'll have your back. We still consider you our long-term allies and if anyone attacks you we'll be quick to respond.

                        Write back soon,

                        Realms Beyond
I think we should give horses this turn.

                          • I wasn't meaning to imply that we should write to him, just that he had promised to write to us and not delivered. Having said that, I like the message and agree with the Horses.
