Yes, that will definitely be one of the points we will make to him. But I think we need to give him time to cool off a bit. We can make a "persuading" email to him in around 8 turns time, but our next email should be warm and friendly and not mention gunpowder. I think we can probably convince him though. We could probably even promise to gift him a handful of oromos.

I think we should mention that are in discussion with Imperio, and that they say PAL were making some threats toward them as well, and asking for RoP to attack him from the west coast (though we suspect PAL are lying and plan to use the proposed RoP to attack us) . We need to say that it's not certain yet, but there's a chance Imperio will become an ally to us both, which would be a massive boost.

Is there any support in the team to offer Banana a chance to take over Acre or settle west of it? Give them a foothold on our continent, so PAL will have a tougher time destroying them?

A wacko far-out-there idea is even to bow to Imperios request and make Jerusalem an open city (gift it to Rabbits or Banana).

No support from me. Aside from the fact Acre is easy for PAL to boat, the fact is that we need to able to strike first against PAL for Banana to have any chance of surviving as a relevant player.

I have the feeling that we will be too late in our conquest of Templars (and presumably Imperios) land to be of any help if PAL attacks Banana.

I'm not sure how much to say to banana. Do we say that PAL are asking permission from Imperio to attack them? Probably. Do we say that Imperio might join us against templars? Possibly, and we could tie it with forming an alliance of the 3 important teams (us, imperio and banana) against the big dogs of PAL. We could sell it as very good, since if we kill templars quicker then we'll be in a better position to help them militarily. But then maybe it would sound a bit strange to say we are forming an alliance with a team that DOWed us. We should probably leave it cautious, say that they are making movements and we haven't decided what to do yet. Not mention an alliance but suggest that they may be able to help us in the short term if we keep an eye on them.

Hopefully by the time we send the email we'll have a reply from Imperio.

I agree, lets not mention anything about IMperio. After all, we have not made any progress with Imperio, apart from talking.

I would like a new map trade with Banana. Line of sight into Magyar, Eisenburg, Banana New City.
I also would like to ask them where his exploring galley in the channel is currently.

Then I want to know how much WW we have at the moment (visible from the international relations screen).

I am fine in telling them that we know where Thebes and Elephantine are. Thebes is three tiles west of Memphis. Elephantine is 3 tiles east of Giza.

We can still offer him 10 gold as interest payment for the loan.
We can also drop a hint that we know that Imperio is currently constructing two wonders, in case he is going for a wonder in Bananapolis and wants to know the progress.

I will leave the phrasing to others.

Definitely! These guys helped us out a lot, we should give them what help we can.

                    Here we go:

                    Hello Donovan,

Thanks for banking! With our new knowledge of compound interest, we'll be paying you 10% of the loan. Don't spend it all at once!

It was useful to hear about Eisenburg. We have some rather nosey people on our team, so you may get another request for a map trade in-game to look into that city. We have gotten a look into Constantinople if you're interested. We have calculated that Thebes is on the plains hill 3W of Memphis. We were also wondering where your exploring galley in the channel is currently. It's rather premature, but it could be useful for transferring units to your continent.

Some information for you about our continent:

We think Imperio are going for two wonders and have about 300 hammers into each of them. Thought it could be useful for you to know this.

Imperio shockingly contacted us by email last turn. There's a lot of negotiating to be done, but they might be willing to back down against us. That's good, since if we can do that we can take out templars quicker and concentrate more on PAL. Imperio also made sounds that they could turn their backs on PAL and that would be great for both of us. Still a lot of negotiation to be done though and it's hard to trust them too much at the moment. We are still at war after all. If Imperio decide to turn on Templars then you may want to be quick if you have aspirations at Acre.

Importantly, they also let slip some crucial information about you: PAL contacted them about securing Right-Of-Passage through their waters should they want to sail some ships down to attack you. They haven't replied and clearly we will be arguing for them not to allow it. However, Imperio would be angry if they found out we have let you know and therefore it is very important that you do not let anyone know that we told you this information.

Templars are hiding their main stack in the jungle between Jerusalem and Pink Dot. If it comes into the open we'll smash it. Constantinople is too well defended at the moment for the troops we have at Jericho. We currently have 3 mini-armies at Cape Town (for Imperio), Jericho and a force at Pink Dot to battle the main templar stack. If we can free up one or both of those stacks then the war will speed up.

                    Regards,

                    Realms Beyond

I like the draft, but should it be 10g in interest not 10%

I wasn't going to discuss the interest, but seeing it was mentioned again ... and that I am an actuary (this is my bread and butter) ...

10% compound interest per year would be pretty high. How many years went past since we borrowed the money? 60? 80? 120 * 1.1 ^ 60 = 36,538 Oh dear.

                            Edit:
Thanks for banking! With our new knowledge of compound interest, we'll be paying you 10% of the loan. Don't spend it all at once!
Actually, that sounds like you are only paying back 10% of the loan, not 110%. Suggest you say 'we will be repaying the principal and including 10g for interest ... 130 in total'.

Well we did already repay back the 120g, so I don't think it sounds weird to say we're going to pay an additional 10g

OK OK, maybe not compound interest. I last used that phrase in a maths exam when I was 16. I'll just change it to interest.

                                And it's 12g (10%), not 10g.
